Listen guys... he's a veteran big man with 6 fouls..... I'm ok with this signing.... and the fact that he wont mess up team chemistry, which is key.  Solid, just solid..... you don't spend 11 years in the league without being solid.

Why is this a problem for some people?

We had three roster spots to fill and don't really need any help other than a big and a PG.

Collins is nothng f note! Buthe;s better than nobody.

We still have 2 spots.  1 will go to a PG, the other, ho knows.

This is fine.

Comparing Hollins to Collins in rebounding:

Total rebounding percentage for their career: Hollins 10.0%, Jason Collins 10.7%
TRB% in 2011-2012: Hollins 9.0%, Collins 9.1%

In the six seasons that Hollins has been in the NBA, he has had a higher TRB% than Collins in four of them.

Don't underestimate this guy. He may look fat and out of shape, but he was the guy that Atlanta deployed for years to frustrate Dwight Howard and take him out of his game, which he did very effectively. This is a smart signing by Ainge. He is very physically strong. Perfect to get you those 6 hard fouls.

Excellent news. A physically strong post defender who can give the team some minutes against bigger front-lines. Did a very nice job on Dwight Howard in the past.

Not as strong a rebounder as a Magloire or Dampier but has better feet ... more mobility defensively. So lose some rebounding to gain some more defensive range.

Exactly.  And as Forsberg reminds us,
Quote
Collins allowed a mere 0.748 points per play last season, ranking in the 88th percentile among all NBA players, according to Synergy Sports data.

Might there have been some bigger names out there?  Maybe, but we don't know if they were ever going to agree to come there.  Might there have been some players with more upside?   Sure, but we already have a project center in Fab Melo.

Collins is an excellent defender with legit center size.  I still hope that Wilcox ends up earning the backup center minutes and Collins ends up on the bench or inactive list most games.  However, if Wilcox were to go down or KG/Wilcox were to pickup foul trouble in a playoff game and Collins had to log significant minutes, I'd be a hundred percent OK with it.

And that's exactly what you want out of a role playing big man.

Good job again by Danny.

Goes to show you there's a mixtape for everybody.

The Howard stopper! Should be a warm body to throw out there for less than 10 mins.

Hollins and Steimsma would get eaten alive by guys like Howard and Bynum. Collins gives us someone who can legitimately slow down those type of players when we need it.

Tough crowd. The man has an 11 year career! He's a solid post defender for the monsters in the league and a guy who can fill in until Melo is ready. Solid signing..

I cannot believe you all the guys who do not like this signing. This is a solid signing by DA along the same theme he has struck with this team

A solid STANFORD guy, means he is smart, and will respond to coaching and KG's influence. He is not a knucklehead.

Nice addition to the Cs. He will stick and get his first ring.

Personally I think this is a great signing for a 3rd string C.

Not only is he a solid low post defender with quick feet but he was an All-American at Stanford.  Like it was said above, he brings a good basketball IQ to the team that will only improve alongside KG and under Doc and is a good locker room guy.

Great get for the vet min by DA, saving the BAE just in case something comes up that we can take a swing at.

It is interesting how much the Celtics prioritize defensive range over rebounding (Sheed, JO, Hollins, Collins).

The job of a GM is to find the best available players (or in some cases like this one, the best bang for your buck) who fit a system designed by the coach he employed. The Celtics, in all the years of Garnett have NEVER been a rebounding team

Not true.  First two Garnett years we were very good on the boards.

My apologies, you're correct. My point was, and I didn't word it well, that Doc's rotations have never particularly encouraged high volume rebounding. It's been my experience watching that rebounding was never to be our MO, and if it was that was incidental. The defensive schemes rarely allow it, especially as this group has matured.
