Who cares what he brought before the playoffs? He brought absolutely nothing during a great playoff run, he will not be missed.
Wilcox and Green brought absolutely nothing during the playoffs so if they walked they wouldn't be missed right? Who cares what they brought before.

Horrendous counterargument. They couldn't play at all because of heart conditions. You and I both know that they would have contributed if they were on the team, unlike the departing cadaver in shoes.

You know that Stiemsma had to say no to the US Select Team because of his injury?

Stiemsma would have made a good practice player for Team USA to dunk on. He is about as good as most of the stiffs they will play against. He is old for a rookie, the celtics pulled him out of the NBDL junk heap because they were desperate for a cheap big man.

Yep, the same team that doesn't have DeMarcus Cousins nor Greg Monroe. Tells you a lot about the meaningfulness of being added to that team.

stiemsma was pretty solid for us last year, is he worth $3million?? im not really sure about that though..

hopefully fab melo can replace his shot-blocking in the rotation next year. For those saying he cant, well a center plucked from the D-league was able to contribute..

most likely though our bigs rotation is going to be

PF: Bass/Sullinger
C: KG/Wilcox/Sullinger/Melo

Stiemsma would have made a good practice player for Team USA to dunk on. He is about as good as most of the stiffs they will play against. He is old for a rookie, the celtics pulled him out of the NBDL junk heap because they were desperate for a cheap big man.

Here is a quote from his end-of-year report card:

"He's got a sneaky little offensive game and actually shot 72.7 percent on jumpers inside of 17 feet (and 51.2 percent on all catch-and-shoot situations overall, according to Synergy Sports data). He struggled in the post, but was solid as a cutter (or roll man) going at the hoop for easy dunks. Defensively, Stiemsma made incredible strides. By the end of the season, he ranked in the 93rd percentile among all NBA defenders, allowing a mere 0.711 points per play (that's downright, KG-like), according to Synergy. Opponents shot just 34.7 percent against him and he tightened up his early season pick-and-roll woes."

Also, just for fun I pulled a comparison of Stiemsma and Omer Asik - he of the 3 year, $25 million offer sheet.

You can see that here:

With the exception of rebounding, Stiemsma outperforms Asik across the board.

well, hopefully Fab Melo can provide what Stiemsma was able to with the shot blocking and defense.

kid has some defensive instincts. hopefully he is a fast learner.

I never knew Stojko Vrankovic was worth that kind of cash...  I'm sure Kevin Love must be salivating with joy over this news. :)

Maybe Danny will figure something out to get us a GOOD experienced 5 man .

Just not as many  5's to choose from these day and yeah I know we can't afford one anyway.

KG !!!!!  Get to work ASAP oN MELO. !!!!!

  • You say when......
Steamer was a good contributer and slated to get better....we have Wilcox and Melo now...as our only centers......a guy coming off MAJOR heart surgery, and a flat out rookie...I'd say not a good position to be in for centers....another signing would help.....

If he had been willing to sign for the vet min like Wilcox then I would have been glad to keep him. Comparing him to Green makes absolutely no sense, and neither does taking my comment out of context, it was a reply to someone else's comment.

Greg, when healthy, was a below average defender with terrible lateral movement who got pushed around by other centers inside. He was an excellent shot blocker and had a decent midrange jumper. That's it. He would not solve our rebounding issues, in fact, he didn't at all solve them last year when he was healthy. He is not worth the BAE, never mind 3 million/year. Good luck to him, he seems like a good guy.

I think he was the best big we could have gotten for the $1.9 million BAE.  Maybe Darko's still in the picture, or Haddadi, or (please, no!!) the Birdman.

Otherwise, we are probably looking at a summer leaguer trying to make a roster.  Who knows, though?  Sometimes those guys work out.  Just look at Greg Stiemsma.

I'll say this: if Stiemsma's departure means that Fab Melo gets a chance to prove his worth, I'm all for it.
