You would think it would have already happened especially now that Courtney Lee's signed.

Do you think Danny could still be negotiating w/ him and maybe working on a price at somewhere Simmons mentioned of 32mil total? It seems pretty weird nothings been official maybe that's why his agent is saying he's taking less  :o

what Danny might be doing is trying to negotiate down so that they can have the space to add more people. We only have $4 million left if Green does sign $9 million.

Wasn't it said that the deal was for 9M each year? Maybe DA is still waiting to see if it is worth risking future luxury tax penalties by giving him the annual raises for more financial flexibility this year.

We don't need financial flexibility this year. By my estimation, it's next year when we'll need the most flexibility to see if we can get under enough to qualify for the full MLE. After that, we pretty much have no shot at the full MLE in the 3rd year, and the 4th really is of no concern at this point.

So if I were Danny, and we have X figure to get to through the length of contract, I'd try to find the way to get the lowest figure possible next season, while still reaching X target by the fourth year.

Green's contract can only go up, or down, by 7.5% annually.  If we're looking to keep his salary as low as possible next season, we could have him take a 7.5% cut next year, followed by raises of 7.5% in the following two years.  The total value would still be the same.

Considering we're talking about a measley 675K, I doubt that is the holdup.  Besides, with the contracts of all our other players likely to be of a standard nature, including raises of either 4.5% or 7.5%, I seriously doubt the full MLE will be available next year.

What could be of benefit, is keeping this year's salary a bit lower.  If Danny is known for one thing, he's known as a guy who loves to make trades.  We must stay under 74m this year, no matter what (CBA rules mandate it).  If we wanted to take on a larger salary in a trade, every little bit less we have on the payroll could help.

I think he has (or just had) a routine check-up from his surgery, so they're just waiting for those results before they put final pen to paper.  I'm sure everyone is confident he's well, otherwise they wouldn't have verbally committed the money, but an insurance company could even demand it.

I wonder if there is a chance Danny told Green's agent, lets announce this deal for 9mil a year to get Minny to sign Steimsma to an offer sheet they believe the Celtics can't match if Green is indeed signed for 9mil.  Green takes less to allow Steimsma to sign and Danny gives Green the most he can offer with what is left.

I would assume that making green happy and giving him his contract would be the main priority over signing steamah.

I don't think the two have to be mutually exclusive.  Danny could have the contract with Green agreed to and still want to get any Steimsma offer sheet down as low as possible.

don't see how the c's can sign greg to more than the BAE, or anyone for that matter.

Green could change his mind tomorrow and sign with Dallas, and it would have zero affect on our ability to sign Stiemsma.  We are so far over the cap that it doesn't matter.  Stiemsma has only been on the Celtics one year, and didn't make much money, which limits the amount we can offer him if we're over the cap.  Green doesn't factor into this at all.

I think there's no point in hoping it falls through anyway because we're over the cap. Not sure though.

I haven't seen all final numbers, but to me it looks like we could be close to losing our BAE, because we must stay under 74M $, so getting Green down to 8M/year could be really useful.

Yeah.  If it fell through, we'd basically be in the same situation we are now (i.e., without any real way to add talent except through the BAE or minimum deals), and we'd have no backup SF.
