Steamer has offer weighing his options

I think its a win-win for us and him to take the offer from Boston. He already has a year with us. Didn't have a camp. Played with bad feet and seemed to play fairly well with some glaring weaknesses. I think KG took a liking to the guy which is a plus.....for him. If he rolls the dice and gambles one year with us. He gets a full camp with us, additional teaching from KG and if he plays well, his stock goes up even more. We can offer more after that and pay him handsomely. If he doesn't work out we can sign and trade him.

He can work on his weaknesses and improve his overall game. I think he benefits more by taking less money from us and learning how to play better than to take more money somewhere else and not improve his game much at all.

I'm hoping steamboat stays but I'll understand if he leaves.

This is a good point.  I don't think there's a better situation in the league for Stiemsma to learn how to play the right way and maximize his skill set than here in Boston.  Even if he gives up a bit of money in the short run, it could be a gamble worth taking for Greg.

The only way Steamer stays is if he doesn't want to sign a multi-year deal, but instead prove himself for one more year to get a bigger payday next offseason.  If he does, we'd have early Bird rights to him, which would increase his market value substantially.  If DA offers him $1.9 mil for one year, and someone offers him $5 mil for two, maybe he stays.  Even so I doubt it, but that's about the only situation that would make sense.  (Yes, I get the "he liked it here factor", which may or may not be true, but he was in the D-league fighting to get to the NBA for a few years.  He'd be wise to take the payday.)

I agree that Celtics is one of the best situations for Greg, but I suspect that the third team, that now has made an offer, is Chicago, who might want to replace Asik. And Thibs could be an even better coach for Stiemsma.

This whole third team business seems fishy to me. When is there a rumor ever reported where a mysterious third team is involved?  If it's a source within the team, he'd be speaking with anonyminity and the reporter would just state which team it was.  This happens all the time when we hear "sources report...". Furthermore, does anyone really need to keep secret the fact they want Greg Stiemsma?  Dwight Howard he is not. 

The fact that this mysterious third team supppsedly exists makes me think that Steamer's camp is making this up to get the T-Wolves to cement their offer or Boston to offer their BAE.

That seems most likely.  If this third team was really offering more money, why keep it secret?  More importantly, why would Steamer and his agent keep it secret?

Ane that is based on what? If we are talking Celtics' needs, a backup five should remain top priority, and Stiemsma is one of the best available options.

To me it sounds like his agent wants real offers on the table now, in stead of just talk. The Boston discount is probably still there.
