Of the 12 players (including Kris Jospeh) we currently have on the roster, 10 (not including Joseph) are signed for next year also.  Meanwhile, because few of the contracts we currently have have a spike in value next year, and Pierce's even decreases by $1.4 million, we should be well under the apron (projected by the CBA to be at $83.9 million.)  This gives us the ability to add another player at the Mid-level, have plenty of room to add salary in a S&T, use the BAE if we don't use it this year (which at this point I think we shouldn't) and perhaps even stay below the luxury tax (which will make his bosses happy.)

Assuming we have the same 1st round slot as last year, here are our salaries, with a mid-level, and with Joseph not guaranteed.

15333334   Pierce
12000000   Rondo
11500000   Garnett
 9000000   Green
 5225000   Terry
 6666667   Bass*
 2511432   Bradley
 1365720   Sullinger
 1311240   Melo
 5225000   Lee
 1352640   2013 1st Round Pick (20% over slot)
 5150000   2013 Mid-level

76641033   Total
This gives us $7.3 million to fit under the apron, with only three spots to fill, and having maybe the BAE, 2 second round picks, Joseph, and vet mins at our disposal.  It also gives DA a lot of flexibility in case projections fall substantially lower than the CBA estimates.

* -- Bass's contract structure has not been revealed, but it was reported as 3 years, $20 mil, so I assume it to be $6.33 mil, $6.67 mil, and $7 mil.

The CBA projects the luxury tax to jump $10 million next season?  That sounds a little aggressive to me, but I'm obviously not the one crunching numbers for the league office.

I could have misread something, but here is the table from Larry Coon's FAQ:

Season   BRI Forecast   50% of Forecast
2012-13   $4.308 billion   $2.154 billion
2013-14   $4.481 billion   $2.2405 billion
2014-15   $4.660 billion   $2.330 billion
2015-16   $4.870 billion   $2.435 billion
2016-17   $5.089 billion   $2.5445 billion
2017-18   $5.318 billion   $2.659 billion
2018-19   $5.557 billion   $2.7785 billion
2019-20   $5.807 billion   $2.9035 billion
2020-21   $6.069 billion   $3.0345 billion
Divide that $4.481 billion across 30 teams, and you get $149,366,666.67 per team.  44.74% of that number is the cap, which would be $66,826,646.67.  53.51% of that number is $79,926,103.33, which would be the tax.  Add $4 mil to get the apron, and yeah, that's what they're thinking, or at least what they were thinking when they put the CBA together.

Reading a bit more, I see that the projected BRI is negotiated every July for the upcoming season.  Still, I would bet the projections in the CBA are a starting point for negotiations from one side or the other, and that, at least early on in the CBA before their growth formula has been shown to be wrong, the numbers end up very near this.

This stuff hurts my brain.

well, Danny's definitely locked the team in for a 3-year run with this core group.  If they do well together, yes he's done a great job.  If they bomb or if the injury bug hits yet again, we may be feeling differently before the season's out.  Personally, I think they're going to be a [dang] good team this year, especially if they can get another decent backup center.

This team is going to be fine for multiple years.  Barring a season and/or career altering injury to KG or Rondo, it is at least and ECF contender for the next 2-3 years.  If one of those two get hurt, we are worst a low playoff seed.  If both get hurt, we are probably a 6-8 seed.  If the world ends, we don't make the playoffs.

He has also managed to collect a fair amount of (still) young talented players on team friendly contracts which will makes for some great assets when facilitating trades.
