Is this total and utter BS? I have ALWAYS been a fan of Green and firmly believe that he can be a SOLID contributor (and maybe even a starter) for the boys in green. If anything, he was screwed by arriving mid-season (no system familiarity) to play with an ABYSMAL bench. And then the whole heart trouble thing really screwed him (and us); resulting in another year of fans wondering "is this the guy Danny thinks he is?". However - his deal seems super lucrative given he recently underwent potentially career-ending heart surgery and remains largely untested.

You decide: Is Falk a good salesman or were other clubs (allegedly there was one club that was serious about this) ready to shell out MORE than we paid for Green to acquire his services?

If the above is true, which team was ready to pay more than we did? Any thoughts?

PS - Green doubters need not answer as your valuation of his abilities will be extremely biased. Aka go away

I suppose Minnesota might have been interested.  Potentially Phoenix or Houston, but Minnesota is the only team I can really see competing with our offer.  The Twolves are obviously willing to pay a hefty financial premium for potential, as showcased in their pursuit of Nic Batum.

I wouldn't be surprised if it was Houston.
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

I wouldn't be surprised if there was one team offering him a little more (my gut says Houston) but I think we signed him for near the top of his price range.

I was very suspicious when I read Falk's comments on this matter, but most NBA GMs are certifiably insane so I don't doubt that one of them made an informal offer of over 10 m at some point during the past 6-10 Months.  13 m sounds completely ridiculous, however, and I seriously doubt anyone would have been willing to fork over that much for a player coming off of heart surgery.

Just a troll disclaimer. People here seem to think that Green won't do anything but keep our bench warm, I can see them pinning his value to be like 2m per year for 4 years or something absurd

I think there is a pretty good case to be made that Danny paid Green more than his past says he's worth, but I doubt Danny paid more than market value.

I think so. Minnesota might have seen Green as Plan B after the Batum sheet was matched. Houston, Phoenix, as others have said.

I could see Dallas as having been interested in using their cap space on Green.

I wouldn't put it past the realm of possiblity.  Some of these organizations have been acting like drunken sailors on a weekend of shore leave this season.  Could very well just be agent speak, though.

Couldn't have said it better myself.  TP.

Way back at the start of free agency I guessed what I thought free agents who were rumored to interest the C's were likely to get in salary.  I was pretty impressed with my guessing.  I was withing two mil on pretty much everyone who took market value except Green.  I had him down for 5mil/yr.
