Well, Murphy at that point hadn't played a single playoff game, and was coming off a serious injury. There was little to be excited. Lee has playoff experience, and he is a good defender, so he justifies a lot more expectation.

I think the last time CelticsBlog was this excited was actually when Shaq was signed. He was a perfect fit, and before he was out for the season, he proved it was all worth. Hopefully Lee can stay healthy and reward all this enthusiasm around here.

Now please Danny, get us another polarizing signing... Blatche. With JJJ/SW/Pavs/Moore out, we need someone who can be called useless/beast within a week. Bring Dooling back also, that thread about trading him was hilarious.

Go Celtics!!!

True. Is kinda funny.  We trade last year's 1st rounder for a role player and everyone acts like we're suddenly contenders... meanwhile, the Lakers are on the verge of adding a top 4 talent and everyone is downplaying it like it's no big thang.

The problem with you guys is you're looking at LEE as a "How good is this individual. Can he carry a team" Instead of looking at it how you should be looking at it. How much better does LEE make THIS TEAM. Sure if you stick lee on a team of scrubs it won't make those scrubs much better. If you stick lee on a team that's already very good..........LEE compliments this team very well. We are one of the deepest teams in the league now. You guys are just looking for reasons to not be excited. Id hate to be around you at a party, downers.

Agree. But the guy got no respect in the RS. I hope Danny brings him back over Christmas

If we still had Ray, and then swapped him with Lee, then it really wouldn't be that big of a deal. When you don't have Ray, and then add Lee to fill a void in your roster, it's a big deal.

Roster wise, Howard would be pretty much swapping Ray for Lee, taking liberties on the context.

C's fans want young, athletic guys.
Provided of course that they can actually play.  ;D
so Gerald Green is out of the equation

Oh stop it! Gerald Green can play!

I would add that after the David West debacle last offseason and all of the back and forth tweets today, people just seem sensitive to the chance of disappointment after getting their hopes up.  I've seen a lot of references to David West in the Courtney Lee thread, and there was an awesome evolution of title to that thread as the ups and downs played themselves out.

I agree. I think this is the closer comparison, with things now going right for the C's. I don't recall being (or other people being) that excited by Troy Murphy.

Haha.. well said. So many pessimists.  But I see where they're coming from..

It's kind of like when Dad promised to take me to watch the Mask when I was a youngster.  I got so excited; it was my first pg13 movie.. but then he bailed on me and my family, married a Russian super model and moved to Moscow..

I never got to see the Mask.. Now everytime I see it playing on TV, I have to change the channel or I'll start crying..

Kinda like how Troy Murphy duped us all.. and how Lee might do so.. Here's to hoping he doesn't do us like Dad did me!

We're not suddenly contenders, we have been for the last 5 years.

Just based on his stats/production it's probably valid to say it's an over-reaction.

To echo what's already been said tho .. I think the reaction is partly to do with Ray going to the Heat, partly relief that it wasn't a repeat of last years David West decision and partly because he has the potential to be the perfect fit here.

(I think the big_sexxy thing fueled the fire too  :) - actually I blame Twitter)
Stay classy, San Diego. Hello, Baxter? Baxter, is that you? Bark twice if you're in Milwaukee. Is this Wilt Chamberlain? Have the decency to say something.

Well, when was the last time we added a 25-year old who can play? :P

I'm not excited by the Lee or Terry signings. I am excited by the combined Lee and Terry signings. In isolation they are OK, however as team needs go they address several and provide roster and match up flexibility.

... was when we signed Troy Murphy.
Did you dump a bucket of ice water on the forums back then, too? :P  I don't remember.

If reflection + perspective = "ice water", maybe so.

What's the perspective? That it doesn't mean anything if people here get excited about a signing because they can't tell a player who will contribute from someone who will be a complete stiff?
