... was when we signed Troy Murphy.

I'm not sure what that observation means.  It's just funny to see all of us emotionally swing so much based upon landing a role player.  I'm thrilled that we signed Courtney Lee, and am as excited as anybody else.  And yet, in the back of my head, part of me remembers that this is Courtney Lee we're talking about, not Blake Griffin.

It's just sort of funny.  I think it speaks to how die hard most of the members are here, that we live and die with updates related to guys like Murphy or Lee.  I think this signing will work out a lot better than the Murphy one, but it goes to show you that excitement doesn't guarantee success.

I would add that after the David West debacle last offseason and all of the back and forth tweets today, people just seem sensitive to the chance of disappointment after getting their hopes up.  I've seen a lot of references to David West in the Courtney Lee thread, and there was an awesome evolution of title to that thread as the ups and downs played themselves out.

The thing with Courtney Lee is not as much how good he is or how much he'll contribute, but he's exactly what this roster needed. He really transforms the current make-up of the team, and suddenly we have what seemed like the beginnings of a good, but limited roster, to a very flexible one full possibilities. And that's why I'm quite excited about Lee.

  • Ashy To Classy, baby.
C's fans want young, athletic guys. They finally got one that's prove. Also, with our previous SG taking his talents to South Beach, getting another one kind of gives even more closure.
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.

If reflection + perspective = "ice water", maybe so.

The defensively liable cog in the wheel (see: Ray Allen) does not exist anymore, that's what I'm most excited about having Lee for. The final piece to the puzzle. I don't want the big names, we already have four, superstar laden teams always find a way to crash and burn. Rondo's league MVP, and he needs roll players, not whiners.

What I'm most happy about? No P.J. Brown talk!

Well, at least this time it isn't some coming-off-of-injury, out of shape, waived castoff emergency signing. Those were dark times, and Murph was a ray of hope. Lee at least played solid minutes for the Rockets, is a known quantity, and from all reports should be a halfway decent replacement for that other guy.

EDIT: also, we just witnessed Ainge repeating his 2011 offseason theft with a 2012 heist, which is always exciting.

Troy Murphy was a big that had no pre-season with the team.

Courtney lee is a 2/stretch 3 which will have all summer to work on the defense.

I see no point in comparing the two situations.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Yeah I had thought the same thing.
I can't believe how much we gave up to get Lee. I mean we gave up a very good potential player in Moore, two athletic bigs in Johnson and Williams PLUS a second round pick(not sure if the pick is confirmed yet?)- and some are calling it a steal. I know we had to clear the cap space but we have given up a tonne of talent there for someone who could be paid 3-4 million per year without giving up anything if we had the cap space.
The positive reactions are good because we have a 6-5 defender wing, but they are over reactions for a large part (in my opinion). Just don't get too excited about Courtney Lee yet otherwise he'll just disappoint you in the long run.

I'd honestly be more excited about signing Blatche for the BAE if we somehow pulled that off.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
