  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
Trade:

DET trades Tyrus Thomas
CLE trades Kenyon Martin
Strange trade for Cleveland. Really needed to add Tyrus to Kenyon to solidify that PF rotation. Needed to get Jason Smith out of that rotation.

Still, it's a solid improvement. Tyrus is quite a bit better offensively than Kenyon at this stage of their respective careers.

I understand the no love for Smith. But really, he's a solid 4. Solid production for 2o minutes of playing time. Good defender too. He's just not a household name, but really, hes a good PF. There's evidence to back that up, but I'll save it in the presser.

Like this trade a more for Washington, because they managed to turn their considerable depth into a upgrade for their starters. I think Gortat is a bit overrated, especially on the offensive end, but he's a top 15 center, and easily the best player in the trade.

Never been a big fan of Bargnani as a starter, but if he's gonna prove himself it'll be this year. I've lost some faith in Kevin Martin since his 3pt shooting % went to average last season. He's the worst defensive starting 2 guard in the league, and the catch has always been, "As much as he gives you on offense, he gives as much away on defense." Also don't believe in Richard Jefferson or Greivis Vasquez as starters, but they're good rotation players.

The bright side for OKC is that they managed to flip Billups and Aminu for two guys who can help right away. Ultimately they helped their team get better by trading a player who was redundant (Gortat) for players who they have a need for. I wish they had managed to get more of a true power forward, but c'est la vie.

Yes but you bring back a guy in aminu who I'm not convinced is an nba caliber player, and an old Chauncey coming off a major injury

This is my take too. Aminu provides nothing for a contending team. Chauncey could be a solid backup, so he's worth hanging onto.

Still, cashing in chips to acquire a legit two-way center has strengthened that Wizards lineup.

OKC got a decent return (four rotation-worthy players) on a very good player that unfortunately didn't fit in their starting lineup and two question marks. Well done.

Yeah but ultimately, how is that hurting them. They could afford to lose Kevin Martin, they could afford to lose Richard Jefferson. Pretty much from their end its Gortat (a 2nd rounder) for Bargnani (a 4th rounder).

Pretty solid move in that regard.
