Wow, I do not like that return for Pierce.

Dudley will have been taken just a bit before the 6.4, so it's essentially Pek and an 8th for Pierce and a 12th. Do I have that right?

I don't think Dudley and the 6.4 are interchangeable. You said you would've taken him at 5.23, Roy has implied he woudl've taken him at 6.1, and we all know how slim pickens the choices are at the SF position right now.

If you did the picks, it looks like:

2.9, 6.4, 12.9

for

3.17, 5.23, 8.20

Factor in fit for both teams, and I think it was a good return for Pierce, who has 2 years of good basketball left in him likely.

Nice trade by IP making it tougher for all of us in the Central. Curse you.

Sixers send: Pierce, 6.4, 12.9

Bulls send: Pekovic, Dudley, 8.20

Hat tip to IP.  His salesmanship on two mediocre players landed him a star, and a pick where he'll be able to land a replacement center who is almost as good as the wildly overrated Pekovic.

Appreciate the hat tip, but I disagree heartily on both players being mediocre.

Pekovic was one of the better offensive centers in the league last season, he got his fouling under control, and he's turned himself into an enforcer who doesn't have to ride the pine after 5 minutes in the 1st with 2 fouls. I took him in the 3rd round with every intention of keeping him, because he's head and shoulders above mediocre.

Dudley is probably an average starter, but he's a tough defender, very efficient scorer, and a fantastic locker room guy.

The Sixers are going to trot out:

Lawson
Affallo
Dudley
Bass
Pekovic/Camby

That's going to be a dangerous team, a young team, and a high scoring team. Considering he was starting Camby a 20mpg guy before, I think he improved his team with the trade.

TP!

Keeping Peirce was not getting me anywhere so I made the best trade available.

Was constantly bashed for having a young core with an aging Pierce who didn't seem to fit. Fixed that and the bashing continues. Guess I can't win.  ::)

Anyway, I'm happier with this team and more confident come press conference time.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Dang it, IP. I just lost motivation.
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

Joking aside, that's hot garbage. You might not like the trade value, but that doesn't mean it was the highway robbery you think it was.

I traded up for Dudley, for a reason, which is that he was who I considered the last legitimate starting SF that I felt comfortable fielding on a winning team. I traded up for Pekovic, for a reason, which is because he was one of the best offensive centers in the league last year.

He didn't get a pu-pu platter for Pierce, he got two legitimate long-term starters, one of which has a pretty high ceiling in Pek.

The gap between Pierce and Dudley is HUGE.  Pierce is an all-around player who literally does every single thing better than Dudley, and does them better by a wide margin.

The gap between Pekovic and the multiple centers who are still available at 6.4 isn't large at all.  When you draft S----- ----s at 6.4, you're basically in about the same situation you were.  Pekovic is slightly better, but it's not a large gap.

If this was Dudley and Pek for Pierce, it would have been a bad deal.  Throw in 6.4, and it absolutely is highway robbery, with some forcible sodomy thrown in.

Overvaluing Pierce at this stage in his career. Now put him next to a Wade and Bosh who are not exactly the Ray Allen and KG he's been used to playing with and a PG in Curry who, can pass, but would take the extra 2-3 shots over the 2-3 assists.

Playing with those three players drastically reduces Pierce's production and value.
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

We disagree on the trade, I think the two players coming back are considerably better than you're giving them credit for.

Truth, did you have no interest at all in a Pierce for Granger deal? Not saying we'd have done that, although we might have thought about it.

Water under the bridge now, anyways.

It cracks me up.  I've had multiple GMs say "I won't deal with you, because you have the reputation of winning trades".  IP, meanwhile, has made the Final Four three years in a row, and GMs line up to be ripped off.

Maybe next year GMs will learn that IP, for all his jokes and witty banter, is a rakish Lothario.  I've got to say, I'm a little jealous.

I'm not sure what to say here, other than that I don't believe that you think this was a fair trade.  You can use whatever metaphor you want, but Truth just hurt his team majorly, and you improved massively.  You know that, but if we have to go through the dance where you pump up the other GM so he'll make trades with you in the future, I understand.  We've all done it before.
