Wow. those were the days:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmwyJp_PcOQ

Sure were.

An unhappy Kobe...an ineffective Pau...Lakers having their behinds handed to them...

I miss it!

Powe was great. Loved his fire. I think Powe was a better inside presence. Bass has a better J.

Ok..Im taking this off topic, but...

KG'S INJURY ALLOWED THE LAKERS TO GAIN CONFIDENCE!!!!!!

Imagine if KG was never injured in 09? The Celtics meet up with the Lakers...Healthy KG and all...the beat the Lakers that year...then I think they 3 peat the next year. *sigh*

The Lakers got a chance to beat the overmatched Orlando Magic in 09. That gave them great confidence in facing us in 2010......cause they were champions (yea Kobe was already one...but we never saw him do it as "The Guy"...and Pau didnt have confidence against KG until 2010...when facing a 1 leg KG...)

Still upsets me.

Sorry for the rant.

I always loved Leon

I know Per 36 isnt a great indicator of how a role player would play in big mins....

But that year his per 36 was 20/10. Again...He likely wouldnt have avg those kind of #s...But it lets you know active he was in short mins..

Good as that film clip is Leon was still only a shadow of himself even then.   He was the best high school player or a top two guy.   Then he got hurt.   That is a post hurt Leon, we never really saw him fully 100%.

Powe, by far. Bass is an undersized, finesse, jump shooting PF, which in my book is the worst kind of PF.

Powe 1.56 points per shot over his career, a ridiculously high number, and one of the highest in NBA history.  Bass 1.27 pps. To put Powe's offensive effectiveness in perspective, Shaq's career pps is 1.47.  When Powe got the ball, good things happened.

Powe a rebound every 3.6 minutes.  Bass a rebound every 4.6 minutes.

Powe, physical defender.  Bass a softie.

If Powe had been blessed with good heath, he would have carved out an incredible career in the league. Instead he became a cautionary tale  -- Don't play when your in a contract year and are not 100% healthy -- that Jeremy Lin must have heeded this past playoffs.

It was sad watching Powe try to play against the Cs for Chicago in the summer league.  We'll always have Finals Game 2, Leon.

I have to be partial with Powe because I also grew up in the Bay Area and a big CAL basketball fan.

With the hopeful emergence of Sully we may need Bass to fill some of KG's roll in the offense as he get on in age and injuries begin to take their toll. It would be nice to have someone to plug-and-play for KG on offense.

Because of Bass's sweet j, at this point, I have to go with him. Leon's a beloved heart guy and we need those boards, but you have to score the ball to compete now more than ever. It just goes to show what kinda love a dunker will always get.

Powe had more toughness, and took names more. There were no excuses around Powe.

A healthy Powe all day.  the man had a nose for the ball, a very tough rebounder and he could score in the paint.  had a real knack for drawing fouls and could hit his FTs.

I really believe if we at least had a healthy Powe in '09 even with KG injured, we get past Orlando to the finals and may have had a shot at even that healthy Laker squad.   If we had a healthy Powe on the '10 team, in addition to who we had available, we crush the Lakers.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.

Brandon Bass was the second most accurate mid range shooter in the league (behind Dirk).
He averaged a solid 6.2 RPG too. In '09 Bass roughly played 1.75 times more minutes while averaging the same amount of turnovers per game. Bass shoots 80% FTs and Powe shoots 70%.

You guys do realize Powe wasn't 7 feet tall, right? They are both listed at 6'8, 240 lbs...

Now, Powe is no scrub. Powe was awesome '08 and '09, but seriously. Powe in his prime couldn't start for the vast majority of NBA teams, barring injuries/bad teams. Bass could start for many teams because of what he brings to the table and how he stretches the floor.

Almost anybody that is not a Celtics fan would take Bass over Powe. It's a no question.
