Yeah, it's important to remember that we're talking about a possible third-stringer, and Childress seems reasonable for that role
No, we're talking about someone who can play substantial minutes (20+) starting or off the bench for ~2 months.

We already have a third stringer in Moore, no need to sign another one.

Moore's a combo guard, whereas Childress is more of a 3. I don't see these two competing for the same role. Which is probably why it's better just to bring back Pietrus, because he can play the 2 and the 3.

Sign someone else to be the backup SG. Not interested in Childress for that role.

Childress = fifth wing in depth chart. Very interested in Childress for this role.
This may be great, but we don't have 20 roster spots. We maybe have one open at this point.

Between Joseph and Moore the third-stringer perimeter positions are covered. I don't see us waiving any of them to sign a "veteran" (who has largely been an afterthought in the last two seasons on an average team) to keep the bench warm.

Childress would be instead of Kris Joseph. No room for both of them.

Not going to happen. Not that it has to.

i just don't see SF as a priority with PP, Green, Joseph and maybe JJJ playing there

I see SG and PF/C as a bigger need with this team

You're probably right. I'd like to give Joseph a shot, and Moore seems to be improving.

he was absolutely brutal last year with the suns...

And he was absolutely terrific a few years ago on Atlanta (who ran a system much more similar to Boston's than Phoenix).  Childress is a classic role player.  That is, he has holes in his game, so he needs be put in a specific role if you want him to succeed.  When he is in that role, he can be VERY good.  When he is not within that role, he is terrible.

He could fit into that role very well in Boston, as a defender, and an extra ballhandler and midrange scorer on offense.  Kind of what Daniels was supposed to be.

he also got to the line a lot in ATL. that would be very valuable to the Cs -- particularly on the 2nd unit.

if the guy would sign at the minimum you'd take him in a heartbeat...

Childress' time in Phoenix has been a nightmare.  In two year, all he did in very limited minutes was make layups and miss threes.  He went 5-40 from three those years.  If you take out that horrible experience, he's a lifetime 36% from three, which is acceptable.

Childress is good around the rim, but is a nightmare shooting the ball from mid range.  He makes Rondo look like Hondo.  If utilized here like AB, running the floor, cutting to the hoop and spotting up for the corner three, he could be effective, but he's no Ray Allen replacement if you're looking for perimeter firepower.
