Lakers can try and try over again. But Dwight made it clear he doesn't want to go to the Lakers. The Nets are his desired destination. Possibly Houston provided Jeremy Lin situation pans out.

From Orlando Magic perspective, they don't benefit from a trade to the Lakers. Bynum like Dwight is in the final year of his contract. He made it clear if traded to Orlando; he doesn't intend on staying. So I don't understand why they are wasting their time with the Lakers.

Money. Talks.

He's coming off a fairly significant back injury. The Lakers are going to offer him the most money, on a competitive team, in a huge market. He will resign with them if they acquire his rights and they know that.

that is to say magic trade him to the lakers in the first place. Trade one star center in his final year, for another star center in his final year. I don't see the logic in that.
Which is why the Magic keep trying to bring Houston into a three team swap.

The Lakers are really the perfect team to call his bluff.  Second biggest market in the NBA, second best franchise in the NBA, Hollywood, Hall of Fame teammates, and the most money to offer him.

If I were the Lakers, I'd consider calling his bluff.  What would he be leaving the Lakers for?  A situation much worse than the Lakers?

This is where it gets complicated. Rockets aren't interesting in a 3way deal. They want Dwight Period.

Is the (now confirmed) Lin signing to draw Dwight in?

how so?  Dwight doesn't want to share the spotlight, he wants it to himself.  Linsanity will steal a lot of that spotlight.

Ehh, I don't see Dwight's feelings towards the Houston franchise changing over one guy, unless he is a franchise, All-Star type guy.  Lin is a nice player, but isn't he somewhere near the 10th-15th best point guard in the league, at best?

He also wants to be surrounded by competent players that can help him win a championship. I know Lin is still very early into his career, but it certainly doesn't hurt the Rockets' chances of landing and keeping Dwight, in my opinion.

Dwight is media Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline.. He will go wherever the cameras are at. He can expand his brand teaming up with Lin. Tracy McGrady remains a huge star in China.

He can expand his brand further with the Lakers.  Kobe Bryant is, and was, the top selling jersey in China, better than McGrady and at times even Yao.

Dwight Howard will resign with whoever he ends this season with. Doesn't matter who.

Time will tell. He also doesn't want to go to the Rockets, by the way.

So if he doesn't get traded to Brooklyn, you truly think he goes there for the taxpayer MLE or the league minimum?

Money talks.  If he is traded to the Lakers, he will wind up a Laker.
