I get the whole...he was great for 5 years, he's a nice guy, he did what was best for himself stuff. I get it.  I get the part about loyalty is a two way street. I get it.

In the mean time I still reserve the right to "trash" him.  He wasn't given an unfair offer. He wasn't disrespected in any way. He was treated like any other player his age producing (or not producing) the way he was.

By the same token if they offer Andre Iguodala dual citizenship in Syria and he decides to play in the Olympics for them instead of the US because they offer more (or less) money I reserve the right to "trash" him.  I don't care if it's a better deal for him. I don't care if Syria offers him more touches and more sun. I don't care. I don't care he had 5 great years for the US Olympic team.

You're absolutely right. Loyalty is a two way street. So let's see it. When Danny offered him a better deal than anyone else and a better deal than he deserved I would have liked to see Ray respond "Oh no! I got an even better deal for you!" But that didn't happen. Far from it.

If a girlfriend broke up with you for a bum that treated her bad even though you treated her better would you say "Oh well. We had 5 good years. I don't mind. You did what you thought was best for you"?  Of course not. You get yourself a hot Euro wife, deck her out in jewels, parade her in front of the ex and her fat new boyfriend with no job, and then brag about how awesome she is in the kitchen and how she speaks 4 languages. Which reminds me. Why the heck am I hanging out here for? I gotta go.

And when I say Ray I of course mean Allen Ray. Sign with the Austin Toros my wazoo. I don't even know who Ray Allen is.

and a better deal than he deserved...

You lost me.

Ray Allen Value at Minutes Played - $10 million
Jason Terry Value at Minutes Played - $3.74 million
Jeff Green Value at Minutes Played - $2.56 million

Ray scored 1.33 points per shot last season, by way of comparison, Jason Terry scored 1.14 points per shot and the league average for a shooting guard is 1.16 PPS. Ray shot 45.3% from behind the arc.

Ray Allen made 52.1% of his unguarded catch and shoot jump shots in 2012. 173 NBA players didn't even shoot as well at the rim.

He also couldn't guard Punky Brewster, spent 1/3 of the year hurt, and was outclassed by Bradley come season's end.

We need a thread that is labeled:

"Can people please stop telling other people how to feel about Ray?", lol

Posting in an eja thread.

I know, right? In the interest of fairness, I feel like I should be as annoyed at this thread as I am at the other ones. People are going to feel how they feel.

+1 to the OP....

only complaint I have which was alluded to in a subsequent post is that NEVER,NEVER, EVER will that traitorous #34 for the cHeat be referred to by me as "Ray".....like addressing or referring to anyone for whom I have animosity, I don't call them by the first name, that's too familiar and endearing .....he will forever more be "Allen" to me (preferably with the ubiquitous Benedict and all it's onerous implications preceding the "Allen")

Hahahahahahahahahaha!

I knew this thread was coming eventually.  Backlash maybe?

Anyways, I can't say the premise is really any better than the "other thread" in which I went on a semi-tirade last night.

My point is, I agree. With GreenFaith.  W really shouldn't be telling other posters how to feel about this situation.

I hate Allen now, but couldn't care less if others still revere him.

I understand why people are mad about what he did. I'm not really happy about it myself. But do we need 20 threads bashing the guy? I knew it would be bad the night he made the choice he did. I had no idea it still be going on this long after it was done.

You guys stop making it sound like he ran over your dog and slapped your grandmothers and I'll stop trying to defend him for doing it.
Peace through Tyranny

Every one is entitled to criticize Ray Allen all they want for whatever reason and I'm entitled to think most of the criticism is whining and way over the top.  If he sucked so bad as many of you claim, then why are you upset that he left?

Hey. I don't like Obama lots and lots. That doesn't mean if he renounces his citizenship and becomes leader of North Korea for less money I won't bash him.
