I get the whole...he was great for 5 years, he's a nice guy, he did what was best for himself stuff. I get it. I get the part about loyalty is a two way street. I get it.
In the mean time I still reserve the right to "trash" him. He wasn't given an unfair offer. He wasn't disrespected in any way. He was treated like any other player his age producing (or not producing) the way he was.
By the same token if they offer Andre Iguodala dual citizenship in Syria and he decides to play in the Olympics for them instead of the US because they offer more (or less) money I reserve the right to "trash" him. I don't care if it's a better deal for him. I don't care if Syria offers him more touches and more sun. I don't care. I don't care he had 5 great years for the US Olympic team.
You're absolutely right. Loyalty is a two way street. So let's see it. When Danny offered him a better deal than anyone else and a better deal than he deserved I would have liked to see Ray respond "Oh no! I got an even better deal for you!" But that didn't happen. Far from it.
If a girlfriend broke up with you for a bum that treated her bad even though you treated her better would you say "Oh well. We had 5 good years. I don't mind. You did what you thought was best for you"? Of course not. You get yourself a hot Euro wife, deck her out in jewels, parade her in front of the ex and her fat new boyfriend with no job, and then brag about how awesome she is in the kitchen and how she speaks 4 languages. Which reminds me. Why the heck am I hanging out here for? I gotta go.
