Saw this on NBATV, and I had to share it. Smack in the face to Ray Allen.

Why do athletes like to say "myself" when a simple me would do?

(Magic Johnson is famous for that too).

Other than my nit picky gramatical critique, he said everything you would like to hear a player say and he said it in a way that seem sincere, not just trying to say the right thing.

Looks like Magic and LeBron have that in common.

Camby says that the decision came down to NY and Miami but the one strike against Miami was -- what would the Knicks fans think of him if he went down there so he ruled them out and returned to NYC.

Camby went on to talk about how New York was always his true home and how much he loved the fans there.

Camby who had played a few years for the knicks, grew up in Connecticut (ie knick fan), couldn't imagine turning up in a heat uniform at MSG. Said he would boo himself if he did that.

The disrespect that allen have shown the c's (leaking anti-rondo stories etc) needs a reply, they should hand one of the rookies #20.

Camby basically said "I just couldn't come back to the Garden in a Heat uniform (the enemy), even I'd boo myself".

Well, if that is what Camby said, then I'd think that he made the decision that was best for him.

For Ray Allen's situation, Camby's words could be understood as - "What would my family think of me if I chose to stay in BOS and be dangled for a THIRD year in a row at the trade deadline?

To me, I'm sure Ray Allen thought of the fans - hence, his message in the Boston Globe.

But - as the popular saying goes - "To Each His Own."

Camby made his decision for himself.

Ray Allen made his decision for himself.

as if ray has been the only one dangled in trades. you dont see rondo and pierce whining about that.

All of this is absolutely true.

It's just that most fans appreciate, and expect no less than  the sentiment Camby expressed.

Basically, Allen should expect to be booed.  I'd be willing to bet it probably doesn't bother him though.

He was also asked his feelings coming off the bench

Quote
"I'm just ready to contribute in anyway possible. Anyway coach Woodson wants me to contribute. I've been a starter for 16 straight years. It's going to be that point of time where you going have to slide over to next chair. I don't have a problem with that. I feel that once called upon if TC (Tyson Chandler) need a break, or coach Woodson needs me in the ball game, then imma be ready to contribute. And definitely give give my best"

rough transcription.

Rondo's "trade" never went to the point of Ray's. For as much "CP3 for Rondo" discussion that was prevalent on the blog and in the news, it NEVER went as far as someone actually pullng the trigger either way.

For Paul - same thing - even to a lesser extent. Plus, Paul has been a Celtic the entire time - Ray Allen hasn't. With that being said, Ray Allen just doesn't have the same endearment to BOS as Paul does - and he never will, unfortunately.

To me, I'm sure Ray Allen his PR team thought of the fans backlash - hence, his message in the Boston Globe.

Fixed that for you.
