Varejao would be much better than Darko. He can run the floor and defends well. You would have to give up Bass; but with Sulinger and Green as Backups at PF maybe you take him. Wilcox can also play PF, so gives you some flex.

Can Bass be traded since he was just signed?

PF: KG, Wilcox, Sulinger, Green, JjJ
Center: Varejao, KG, Wilcox, Melo

Can't trade Bass now until winter.

I dont see how, and i dont want to give up bass but it would be an awesome guy to have even though i hated him when we played the cavs in the playoffs.

The dude is an absolute beast on the offensive glass and its been a while since we had an offensive rebounder of that caliber. Hes a good defender as well.

Love his game. He is thorn in the Celtics side for sure.  He is the type of player the Lakers like.

I'd rather have him on the Celtics than have to play against him.

I love watching Varejao and Noah matchups.  Great physical basketball from to almost identical players with same attitudes.

I think there is a solid chance we could get him if he isn't traded before the season starts.  There is incentive for the Cavs to get rid of him.  The Cavs are in full re-build mode with two promising young big men (Tristan Thompson & Tyler Zeller) who play Varejao's positions and he is now their most expensive contract ($27 over 3 years with a team option on the last one.)  He would be a match made in heaven too for the C's and I hope he is one of Danny's main targets when mid season rolls around and we have more flexibility in trades.

I mean you couldn't ask for a better fit.  He's 6"11.  He can play Power Forward or Center.  He plays physical, tough defense and hustles with an unrelenting motor, still in his prime (29 years old), and most importantly he was 3rd in the entire league in rebounding rate last season (averaged 11.5 rpg), something we desperately need help with.  He does have some weaknesses, he's not a very good shot blocker, free throw shooter, or offensive player in general and he's not incredibly athletic.  But I would love his toughness, defense and rebounding on this team either way.

Rumors before the draft were that the Cavs dangled him looking for another pick in the lottery but their demands were apparently too high.  If their expectations come back down to earth I'd love the C's to explore something mid-season centered around Bass who's contract matches in a trade. For the Cavs Bass is younger, more athletic, much more polished offensive player, and he has a much more cost controlled contract that runs over the same period as Varejao's (but would ultimately save them $7.5 mil.)

Plus this picture of him mocking Lebron's tattoo always made me laugh:

Verejao would be the most important addition we could make to our team for 2012-13 and beyond, provided he fully recovers from his wrist injury. IMO, the only untouchables for trading purposes would be KG,Rondo and PP. Everybody else, and I mean everybody else is expendable cause we can fill their void easier than finding someone of his caliber. He is a beast down under - something we havent seen in a lot of years. He is not a scorer, but he has what we need. We need his aggressivenes more rather than another scorer. I know he wont even be considered and thats why we will get outrebounded mercilessly again this year.

I don't see the Cavs making a deal built around Bass.  As others have pointed out, they have their PF going forward.

If there would be a trade, it would likely be built around Green since they could use a SF going forward.

Celtics can then turn around and trade Bass for another backup SF.

Agree, Wdleehi. I though Verejao was a free agent or subject to be traded. I dont see Clev. trading Verejao for Bass. I would trade Green and keep Joseph (Healthier and looks like a young PP). But I just dont see we are interested enough in solving that serious rebounding problem we got. I just dont see it in the cards. Everybody is interested in the 6.5 shooting guards. lol

I love his game, but I don't see any way to get a trade done before the season.

It would be great if Jeff Green plays well enough that the Cavs would want his contract, while at the same time Pierce and Joseph play well enough that we don't need Green anyway.  We would have tons of options for mid-season trades at that point.

But we cannot trade Green now (per the rules), and even if we could, I doubt anyone would want that contract with his unproven status.  Again, hopefully he can erase any doubts in the first couple of months of the season.

so that would mean varejao has the highest salary on the cavs now.  they should be motivated to move him right?

They probably need his salary to meet the salary floor.  If I were them, I would hold out for a deal that brings back a good draft pick or something that brings back a star to pair with Irving.

Great catch, LooseCannon.  I like Varejao alot myself and think he'd be a nice fit in Boston.  But a quick look at Cleveland's numbers puts their salary situation at about $41 million.  The cap floor is about $46 million.

If anything, Varejao's higher salary is incentive to keep him, not drop him.
