people are getting super giddy about Darko and Blatche...is this some bad dream?

I know! what is wrong with these people?

Ill say it again:

Id rather have a rolled up carpet on wheels taking charges in the lane than this dude!!!!!!
I don't think O'Neal is a realistic option for the C's this year.

For a 4th or 5th rotational big, Darko would be a great add.  KG, Bass, Wilcox, & Sullinger will still be playing the majority of the time so it's not that big of deal to me.  Melo might even get some run depending on his development.

Rondo/Dooling
Bradley/Terry/Pietrus
Pierce/Green/Joseph
Bass/Sullinger/Johnson
KG/Wilcox/Melo/Darko

Darko would be filling the role of big body vet defensive center than Jermaine O'Neal was filling in the past (at $6M per year).

Were we to get him at the minimum, I think it'd be okay. Big body, capable of blocking some shots and matching up against taller centers in the league.

He can't be more brittle than JO and he wouldn't cost as much. I'd like to see how he responds to a structured and winning environment like Boston. At the min, what else can we expect?

Oh no, Oneal is more like a concrete statue on wheels than a carpet  ::)

I'd be perfectly happy with Darko at the vet min; he's better than he gets credit for.  Surprised that nobody bid at least the BAE for him.

Thing is...  historically, he hasn't been the kind of guy who handles adversity and criticism well.  Not sure how the Darko/KG pairing would ultimately work out.  He seems like the kind of guy who'd wither under KG's inevitable teardown, rather than absorbing it and getting better as a result.  Some players love learning from KG, other players can't handle it.  Kwame's another guy where it seems like it would be a very dangerous pairing.

But, worth the gamble, and players DO grow up.  If Darko wants a chance to show the league that he's legit, there's an opportunity for a good-sized role here, on a team that's going to get a lot of national attention.  It wouldn't be inconceivable to think the starting 5-spot could be open, KG would much rather play the 4 and they'd rather have Bass come off the bench.

Ok, maybe the third time is the charm!?:

There's no point in signing him if he's that low on the depth chart. And Sully will get some minutes at the 5 too.

Y'know what, there's no point in signing him at all. Just work with this bigs rotation:
PF: Bass/Sullinger/Wilcox
C: Garnett/Wilcox/Melo/Sullinger

And get Courtney Lee (dang) it!!

Nah, no 3rd time about it. Playing on this team is a lot different then playing on the teams he was with in the past.

More depth is the point. He comes cheaper than trying to match whatever Minnesota overpays for Stiemsma.  He plays the Hollins or Sean Williams role.

Yes, Sully will play some 5. Green also gets some run with the 4's, depending on matchups, etc.

In my best opera-man voice ala SNL:

"Darko el busto, we no signo, I hope so!"

This guy is an abject failure who has never panned out.   Pass, sorry if your related to the guy.

blatche is the most talented big out there, and darko would probably come in second. getting these guys for the vet min, based on talent alone, would be a steal.

the problem though lies in the heart. this isn't a free throw or a jump hook that they can work on the whole summer. it's their approach to the game, to adversity and i guess, to their life in general. Darko has always seemed like a bratty kid who only flourishes when things are going well for him. But when faced with adversity, he will sulk and likely be the first to quit.

That said, i don't think i'd want him on this team. He wouldn't be able to handle KG's tutelage, and a quitter's attitude can really bring a group down. we're better off using the roster space on keyon dooling. he won't be able to give us any minutes in the center or power forward position, but he sure can "flex" and wave a mean towel.

Darko is a better fit.  He actually play like a big man.  He will listen to coaches.  He can be backup C until Melo takes the job from him.

agreed. While Darko's skill set is indeed a great fit (what team couldn't use a serviceable big man who can run the floor and rebound and block shots?), he's really not a champion.

to use a Celtics' example... signing Darko (or Blatche) would probably be a lot like getting Mark Blount. another no-heart player.
