I hope not...
Right now we have 6 guys on our roster to potentially share playing time at the PF spot - 5 of those being between 6'8" and 6'10"
* Kevin Garnett
* Brandon Bass
* Jeff Green
* Chris Wilcox
* Jarred Sullinger
* JaJuan Johnson
The only guys on that list who are not undersized (in terms of either height or build) and who are above average rebounders are Wilcox and Garnett.
Signing Scola would give another 6'9" PF who is an average rebounder - 7.5 rebounds per 36 minutes adjusted last season, which is about on par with Bass.
That's 7/15 roster spots clogged up by taken up by potential PFs. Do you not think that's just a little overkill when we are so desperately in need of depth at other positions (Center and SG)?
Now to be fair Johnson is IMHO utterly useless, and if by some unlikely chance he's still on the roster opening day (I seriously doubt it) he won't see a second on the court. KG is going to spend most (if not all) his minutes at center - likewise Wilcox. Jeff Green will spend most his time at SF, but they will want to give him good minutes so he will surely get time at PF. That leaves 48 minutes at the PF position that need to be divided between Bass, Scola, Green and Sullinger. How are you gong to make that work?
What we really need is a legit backup center, so if you're NOT going to use the MLE on Lee/Mayo then at least use it on a servicable backup center like Brendan Haywood (clearing wavers) or similar - someone who can clog up space and give us a 'Kendrick Perkins' like presence. Hell I'd even rather see Stiemsma get the MLE then use it on another redundant PF.
The only way I'd want to see us get Sola is if we planned to use him used as trade bait in a deal that would land us someone like Josh Smith - otherwise zero interest.
