Ray Allen raised several issues with the Celtics following his introduction as the newest member of the Miami Heat on Wednesday.
 
This included what he considered to be a diminished role in Doc Rivers’ offensive scheme.
 
But the Celtics coach, watching the Cs’ summer league team play Detroit today in Orlando, didn’t want anything to do with his former guard’s issues.
 
“Listen, I’m not talking about Ray right now. He’s no longer part of us,” said Rivers. “That’s my take, really. We talked about a lot of stuff, but really, I’m talking about our guys.”
 
Allen said yesterday that he felt he was penalized by his reluctance to complain over the last five years.
 
“Sometimes it’s my own fault. Sometimes you have to step out and clear your own path and let it be known a little more,” he said following the press conference. “But I acquiesced so much, that at some point they said Ray will be alright. He’ll get his touches, or he’ll figure it out, we don’t have to worry about him, and at some point it was to my own detriment because at some point I didn’t create enough of a wave to let them know you have to speak for yourself.”

Allen was getting less touches because his diminishing physical skills turned him into a one dimensional offensive player. 77% of his buckets last year were assisted, up 30% in the five years since his last year in Seattle.

Now, Allen might think they just put him in the corner like Baby in Dirty Dancing, but on an offense starved team like the Cs, if Allen was still able to create offense on his own, Doc would have let him do it. 

Despite the team player act the past five years, Ray Allen in the final evaluation is what he's always been - a player concerned about his touches.

Ray had every right to do what he did.  Fans, Doc, etc have ever right to be angry with what he did.

I agree Ray is a Celtic forever for helping to bring #17 to Boston  -- for now. 

Ray  will be in an unprescedented position if he is in any way responsible for getting in the way of #18. There has never been a former C to 'jump ship' and then directly contribute to denying us a championship.   If Ray does that, he may lose his forever-Celtic status in my eyes.

I choose to believe this was a hard decision for Ray. I think it was no one particular problem that drove him away, but the collection of them made him believe enough was enough. All we have seen from him over the years was nothing but class. Although he was effective in He Got Game, he's not that good of an actor to fool everyone regarding his image.

But yeah, by the time training camp opens, I really don't wanna hear his name anymore. We can banter about him for the summer out of boredom, but he doesn't matter anymore.

It would be nice if I could wish Ray good fortune for the rest of his career, but I can't.  He's a Heat. 

I'm over the hurt.  It's not personal anymore, but I'm required to root for his failure.
