The Nets are also said to be aggressively shopping second-year guard MarShon Brooks. FOXSportsOhio

I remember there were some against throwing a pick to Nets for him as it would help both Magic and Nets facilitate a blockbuster trade, not in our favor.

But now with Lopez signing a max deal, Joe Johnson there, Brooks is supposedly expendable.

In case the Courtney Lee deal falls through, how about swapping Moore and Charlotte's pick for Brooks?

Worst case scenario he plays the Sasha role. Best case he could fill in for Bradley and replace Ray.

This wouldn't be a bad option C, depending on what is needed in return -- presumably some salaries to match unless the C's have any trade exceptions left, plus a draft pick. It all comes down to the draft pick. A 2nd rounder? Seems like a no-brainer to me. A first rounder? eeeeeh, I'd probably rather hold onto the first rounder and see what other veteran FAs are available (e.g.: Delonte West, Shannon Brown, Martell Webster after his buyout).

If Nate Robinson was  6'5 he'd be pretty decent and Gerald Green is pretty solid
If you find Gerald Green "solid", I guess we can agree to disagree right now.
Fair enough, but have you seen Green play lately? Don't simply dismiss him off of what you've seen of him when he was in Boston and Minny. He's a much improved player.
"Much improved" doesn't necessarily make him solid. He's still mediocre at best defensively at his position.

  • It's what I do! It's who I am!
I'd do Cha's 2nd rounder from the Green medical mess.

Although he put up much more efficient numbers before his foot injury, here are Brooks' rookie year numbers, with the 2nd year numbers of a current NBA player.

29mpg, 12.6 ppg on 43/31/76% shooting, 3.6 rpg, 2.3 apg 2.1 TOpg
26mpg, 15.4 ppg on 43/34/79% shooting, 3.1 prg, 2.5 apg,2.0 TOpg

That player is Kobe Bryant.

Now, I am in no way saying that Brooks is even a destitute man's Kobe Bryant, but his reputation as a useless chucker is way too premature a yoke to hang on him.

The guy has good NBA size and athleticism for his position, and is a hard worker who has improved every summer for the past four years. The only way to know  if he can be a solid contributor on a good team is to see him play on one.

Brooks was the 25th pick in the 2011 draft and made all rookie second team.  I can't believe that he's not worth a pick in the mid to low 20s.  Being from Providence, I've seen Brooks develop his game from a nothing to a top scorer in the Big East, and then a solid rookie in the league, albeit on a garbage.

I have faith in the guy and think he'd thrive as a Celtic.  I expect Brooks to be a more efficient scorer this season where ever he plays. There are plenty of instances of good SGs not being that efficient their rookie year.  Kevin Martin shot 38/20/65% his first year.

Kobe was 19, Brooks is 23. Kobe was an absolute elite SG athlete, Brooks is an okay athlete for a SG.

Also your stats left out that Bryant got to the line 5.8 times per game compared to 2.6 times for Brooks, which is a pretty important indicator of how effective he could eventually become as a scorer.

Adam Morrison averaged 11.8 PPG and made an all-rookie second team too.

Kevin Martin was a .600 TS% player his second year, which was the first year he got minutes. As a rookie he only played 1/4 the minutes that Brooks got.

If we could get Brooks for a 1st round and something like Etwaun i would the happiest guy on Earth.
Our 1st next year doesnt mean anything cause the draft next year isnt deep at all.
Jack of all trades, master of none.

Again, I don't think he's option 1 by any stretch of the imagination, but I think you have to consider the trade if other options fall through.  It is quite possible that S&Ts for Lee and Mayo don't work out and that Pietrus finds more money elsewhere.

If we're looking at him to plug a hole in our rotation for a single year, then its a bad idea. We can find guys off the scrap heap who better fit our needs.

If Danny likes his potential going forward, I could accept that. If we're willing to give up a first round pick we likely can get better bench options at SG that'd work for one year.
