I think it is important to note that next summer the sign and trade rules are changed, which will make it more difficult for the high salaried teams to acquire players.
Quote
Starting in 2013-14, teams more than $4 million above the tax level cannot receive a player in a sign-and-trade transaction.

Thus, a guy like Dwight Howard cannot be sign and traded to Brooklyn who will be over the tax level without some major cost reducing trades being made by the Nets.  Thereby greatly increasing the chances of a team trading for him to keep him long term.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

This is huge.

This is where overpaying for role players could really kill a franchise.

I didn't know this was happening and yes you are right.  Could create a scenario where there is a bigger gap between salaries of the stars and the other guys.

So far this year no team has gone outrageous with a signing. At the most there are a few players who are getting maybe 2 mil / year more than they should.

No Lewis, Arenas or even Outlaw deals out there.

Although the Nets roster is potentially going to look gruesome financially. Lopez is not a max player.
