PJ3 looked good against us and so did Plumlee.  Athletic guys can play right out of the gate.

I see some potential in Melo, I was totally against the pick but I see a lot of flaws too.  He is a neophyte on the court and his hands are suspect.   I think improving them would help him immensely.  I wish we had that Big Man specialist coach on our roster to develop them.  Clifford Ray though isn't probably going to walk in that door.  But we need one for Melo, I think.

Melo's basketball skills coach, Rob McClanaghan, is the best in the business.  His roster of students could beat any team in world (Durant, Westbrook, Love, Rose, Horford) and he's also had luck taking plodding college bigs and making them into decent NBA post scorers, like Brook Lopez. I expect Melo to improve this summer and be ready to fight for minutes this pre-season.

PS: He helped turn Westbrook from a non-shooter to a guy with maybe the best mid-range pull up jumper in the game. Rondo should hire this guy immediately.

Can someone name for me the last center that couldn't average 10 PPG or 6 RPG in college that became anything but a bust in the NBA?

Even just one player?

Mark Eaton, the ALL TIME NBA career leader in blocks per game (3.5), played only 300 minutes in two college seasons at UCLA averaging 2 and 2.

Very interesting.  Will he just work with him in the off-season or will he be some sort of personal mid-season coach as well?

Athletic guys can play right out of the gate.
Tell that to JJJ and E'Twaun- they were two of the most athletic players on the 2011-12 Celtics and they hardly saw the court.  Athleticism definitely makes the transition to the NBA game a little easier, but I would argue that maturity, willingness  to be coached, bball IQ, and countless other traits are equally important for a rookie's immediate impact.

We'll see if Melo can make a contribution this year- I don't know how so many people are already so sure of his abilities/potential after a few summer league games.  He IS going to get better, that much is obvious. The questions that remain are: How good will he be? How long will it take to get there?
The answers won't be known for at least a few years-this coming season will give us some hints but we still won't see anywhere near his full potential. Even if he doesn't play a single minute this year picking him will have been far from a waste- he is a PROJECT and projects take time to develop.

I'll have to read more about this Rob Mac guy, it sounds like he knows what he's doing.  Hopefully he sticks with Fab, and maybe even develops some sort of relationship with the Celtics organization.

moore was one of the most athletic celtics?

You might want to stop analyzing players for 3-4 years. Get lots of reps offline.
