Nenad Krstic signs a new contract with CSKA Moscow

Good luck to Nenad.  He may be better suited to the Euro game and seems to have found his niche there.

But that certainly leaves the C's young and thin (after KG) at the center position at this point.

Will be interesting to see if Stiemer and/or Wilcox makes it back and just who ends up where on the depth chart behind KG.

Good for him, he really does fit much better there. I didnt really want him back on the celtics , and we couldn't sign and trade him, so no real loss for us.

Well, it is clear that KG will be starting at the 5, but the Cs still need backup. Steemer is likely gone, Camby has been signed. Who's left for depth at the 5? Ian Mahinmi? Kwame Brown?

I think they're waiting to see if Steamer actually goes to Minny, which is probably somewhat contingent on the Blazers matching (or choosing not to) match the offer on Batum.  So in the meanwhile, they're keeping the Bi-Annual open to defend their ability to match an offer sheet.  If Steamer signs the offer sheet, or signs elsewhere for more than the bi-annual, I bet they then offer it to Wilcox, otherwise they offer the vet min (since that's all they have to offer.)  But a couple of weeks ago (or last week?)there was a brief blurb saying how he hoped to come back, for what it's worth.

I wouldn't dismiss this entirely.  I agree Krstic isn't the ideal center for this team.  If he had played with KG, we would have been very slow up front.  If he had played without KG, we would've been without any shot blocking (particularly with the undersized PFs we'll likely be throwing out there).  

Still, we had his Bird rights, which meant quite a bit given our financial constraints.  

I think we'll be OK with Wilcox and either Hollins or Williams.  But Krstic could've been helpful.  

As for Wilcox, isn't there some provision in the CBA which allows  a team to bring back a player at a certain percent raise over their previous salary with the team, even before the team has the player's Bird rights?  If that's the case, can't we offer Wilcox a raise on his 3 million dollar salary from last year?

The problem is that Wilcox was waived (a mistake by Ainge in my opinion), so we don't have anything for him since he didn't finish up the year with us.

I'd be surprised if he returns for us for cheap, other than a BAE offer.

I don't think they actually use the BAE on Steamer -- it's more of an existential threat.  If they announce that they're using it on Wilcox, then Minny can offer less and get Steamer if they want.  Minny will either offer above the BAE so that we can't match, or decide that doing so is too much.  I bet they already know if Wilcox will take the BAE, and have a deal in place once it's clear they'll have it to use, or know that he wants more than the BAE, which the Celtics can't afford.
