The problem is that Wilcox was waived (a mistake by Ainge in my opinion), so we don't have anything for him since he didn't finish up the year with us.

I'd be surprised if he returns for us for cheap, other than a BAE offer.
Coming off a heart surgery, I doubt he'd get better offers than the vet minimum.
Yeah he took the mini-MLE quick enough last year.

I'd imagine he'd be available for the minimum.

I expect him to get a 4 year $12 mil deal.  ;)

I'd bet he could get the Bi-Annual from someone.  I mean, if Brandon Roy can get the MLE for two years, someone should be willing to pay Wilcox $2 million for a season.

It's what he was making with Detroit, so why not make about the same with a championship contender team?

But you know, vet. min. for him right now is at 1.3, so that's not a bad way to return. I think he can get a 1.9-2.5 deal somewhere, but given that I think he liked it here in Boston and just take the 1.3. We'll see.

I am starting to think that Fab Melo is going to be thrown into the fire. Krstic was not an ideal choice, as we all know, but he was the closest thing to a league-average center that we could possibly have acquired this off season.

I doubt it.  KG is going to play 30 minutes a game at center.  The rest of the time we'll have smaller lineups with Bass and Sully playing there.  Maybe Steamer if he comes back, or Wilcox.  But the plan for Melo is to keep him in Portland as much as possible, unless he shows in training camp that he gets it enough to be relied upon.

Probably no more than half the teams in the NBA have "true" centers anyway, including the Heat, so I am not too panicked, even if I would love to have one.

I think that KG is better suited to center right now, and the stats back that up. That said, the CW is that a center takes a lot more physical punishment than a power forward. Are you so confident that he will play 30 minutes of center a night because there aren't other options, or because it's the best lineup for us? If the latter, what of the added risk and the well-documented fact that Garnett doesn't like to play there?

Not much of a player. Not much of a loss.
totally disagree with both of those.  Krstic is a darn good NBA backup center.  Not many teams have a better backup then him.  Given the C's had his Bird rights, they could also sign him without much regard to cap rules, something the team desperately needs.

Nenad will be a big loss to a team that needs a center (or multiple ones).

Kind of annoying could have used him. Now we lost out on Camby and probably Stiems

We can easily sign Stiemer.  It is just a matter of whether we want to or not.

No we can't.  We can't offer him more than the contract we offered.  He could probably get double that elsewhere.
