Let's not get too ahead of ourselves.
The kid has talent, that is without a doubt. But it's one summer league game and we are a long ways away from even the first day of preseason.
Let's see if he can understand the schemes and get the trust of his teammates before we anoint him our next Big Al or Perk love affair.
But I am glad to see the kid is a player. He has some nice promise to say the least.
But we aren't basing this off of one summer league game. This guy was a 2-time All American at OSU his
freshman and
sophomore years.
He was a projected top-5 pick before going back to school.
He lead his team to the Final Four. He's 20 years old.
To the OP: I can understand why teams in the top 10 passed on him. He tested horribly at the combine in the athleticism drills, then he got red flagged for his back. GMs look at that and see an overweight guy who will be fighting lower back issues his whole life (because many of them have the same problems.) You can't use a top-10 pick on someone with those kind of problems in the post-Greg Oden era of the NBA lottery.
I can see why some of the teams in the 10-15 range passed on him too, if they had needs that were better fit by some of the guys there. But for the teams after 15 it makes no sense. How does Daryl Morey not snap up this guy with 3 picks between 12 and 18?
Anyways...good for us.
