Everything Danny has done so far (Except drafting Sullinger) points to us getting younger and more athletic.

I'm thinking Danny will take a flyer on Williams' upside and either S&T Stiemsma or let him go altogether.

Either way, I hope Stiemsma does good anywhere he goes.

Just another reason to laugh at David Kahn.

As if anyone who truly knows the game needs more.

Nonetheless, Steamer should take that deal. Today. Before Kahn sobers up.
Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Celticsblog forums: where no one can read sarcasm

(even when it's followed by a clearly contradicting second statement that shows it being clearly sarcasm)

What you fail to realize is that it's the sarcasm that makes is a stupid post, not the actual joke.

No one would blame Stiemsma for doing that.  He'd being paid more money to play a significant role on a team from another conference.

What Ray did was took less money to play a lesser role for the enemy.

They are completely different circumstances.  If Ray had gone to the clippers for comparable (or even less) for a starter gig for the clippers, no one would blame him.  Going to the Heat for less money is completely different.

What you fail to realize is you are taking a joke in a post WAY too seriously.

No, you tried to harp on people for missing the joke, when people understood it fine.  It was just  a dumb comparison and you were the one who was missing the point.

... you are still taking this too seriously.

It was a joke.

You don't have to take a joke and extend it to be a way of thinking.  You don't need to take a joke as a "comparison".

A post on a message board isn't "harping".

See ya, I'm out on this one.  Keep getting worked up about a joke though.

As funny as it is to watch you desperately try to back track, you should just give it up.  Everyone knows you're the one who missed the point, and although it was hilariously ironic to see you try to talk down to others for missing the point, it isn't that big a deal.  You should just apologize for trying to play smart and move on.

I have nothing to be upset about, I hadn't made a post about Ray in this thread nor were you responding to me.  I'm just making a point for their sakes that you were trying to talk down to them and caught looking like a complete idiot.

Yeah, except for the fact that Green can:

1. Score the basketball.

2. Defend without racking up fouls at a breakneck pace.

3. Actually catch the basketball when it's thrown to him.

Guess I missed the "serious health concerns," since all I read is that Green has been pronounced perfectly healthy.

However, we all know this blog would never, ever, EVER over-romanticize any low-budget player Danny Ainge brings in. Perish the thought.

Personally, I could care less where Stiemsma plays. And if Ainge pays him $3 million a year, the only remotely acceptable reason I can think of is to facilitate the acquisition of Terry under these stupid cap rules.

Because there's ZERO way Greg Stiemsma is worth $3 large a year. None.

Want to explain to me where else I can find a center who rebounds and blocks shots at an elite level for 3 million a year? Name one other player who gets 5 blocks per 48 minutes that's not getting paid at least that much.
Steamer elite?

LOL.

Let's just say your definition of elite is FAR more liberal than mine.

There are a lot of words I'd use to describe him: Slow, mediocre, foul-prone, terrible rotating defensively.

Elite isn't one of them.

People get so worked up on this board when their favorite players filter out.

He's obviously incredibly unathletic and a poor rebounder, but he is an elite shot blocker which is something we need.  As for his fouls, a good handful of them were just benefit of the odubt to the veteran player, and others were the result of him being a step slow due to injury so he couldn't recover in time.  He's not elite, and he's probably not even worth 3 mill, but he's a quality big.

Yes because bringing back KG, trying to bring back Ray, bringing in Terry, and the aforementioned Sullinger, all point to Ainge being completely committed to rebuilding and getting younger and getting more athletic.

Williams is and was garbage who didn't do anything.  Counting on Williams to replace Greg would be a horrendous move.

I like Steamer and will miss him if he goes. Still can't but help to feel happy for a guy getting a chance to go home and get pretty darn good money.

I called him an elite shot-blocker, not "elite" in general. I love it when I'm arguing with somebody who has no reading comprehension skills... because it lets me know I can safely disregard their ill-formed opinions.

Who talked about rebuilding?

Signing Green, keeping the draft picks instead of trading for a vet ala 08 shows a desire to get younger and more athletic.

I would love for us to keep Stiemsma.  But Stiemsma would be crazy to not accept a better offer.

I'll be honest, I'll miss the guy. I know he was raw but I thought the kid had potential. Especially with a full camp and under the continued guidance of KG. He has an intangible that you don't see in all players. A lot of heart and desire.

That being said, if the kid gets paid and goes to Minny, I will cheer him on every time I see him (except when he plays us).

I really feel like we should up our game on trying to retain him, but I don't think we will.

He won't hurt nearly as bad as Ray made us feel burned. Steamer will be more of a feel good type and I'd wish him nothing but the best.

There's not much we can do to up our game to retain him.  The most the C's can offer is $2 mil a year for 2 years through the bi-annual exception.  If Minny is offering $3 mil, and presumably for more than 1 year, we can't come close to matching that, since we don't have Bird rights or early Bird rights to him, and we don't have the cap space to match an offer sheet.  On top of that he gets to return to the upper Midwest.  If Minny wants him, there's nothing we can do to stop them.
