Great news, but the only way this is possible is if we're able to acquire Terry via S&T, and not the MLE. And even with the MLE, I'm not sure Mayo takes it. We'll see...

Not quite right. There are other ways to get Mayo.
See this thread, for an example: http://forums.celticsblog.com/index.php?topic=58272.msg1265454#msg1265454

Didn't the Grizzlies lose their Bird rights to him? If so, then they can't sign him because they're over the cap.

Not sure I'd want to deal Kristic.  Right now, Melo is the only legit Center we have on the roster and KG I think wants to play the 4 a little more.

Still, I think Mayo could be a good pickup if we can make the finances work.  If we can somehow, however unlikely this is, get both Kristic and Mayo, I'd be thrilled with our team.

I think Krstic is a must-keep here.

We can't trade him anyway. But must keep? He isn't even here in the first place.

Get then. That's not the point. The point is we need a veteran center.

I agree, but I'm pretty sure there's a mutual non-interest between the two parties.

Where do the minutes come from? Rondo, Bradley and Terry all should be in the low-30's range (AB and Jon could play more, but preservation throughout the season is key.)
Small lineups with Pierce and/or Green at the 4.

A couple additional comments based on things said in this thread so far, assuming the rumor has some basis in reality, however slender:

(1) small ball, here we come -- I expect this means we'll see Green at the 4, KG and BB at the 5 a lot more than we would have imagined.

(2) Danny is collecting assets. He views Jeff Green and OJ Mayo as potential assets to be used in a bigger trade a season or so from now. Assets in the sense that both these guys are players that haven't matched their high expectations, but the goal is to see if a change of scenery + playing with uber-competitive Kevin Garnett changes that.  Same goes for Sully and Melo.

(3) Given (2), don't expect to see DA use many draft picks in his attempt to pull of a S&T for OJ Mayo. DA will want to preserve these for future trades.
Celtics fan for life.

OJ Mayo is redundant with Jason Terry here. I'd rather sign a defensive SG.

I'd rather have a Center.

I'm pretty sure they still have his bird rights. You don't lose them because of not offering the qualifying offer, they have to renounce him (which I doubt they have done since he's trade chip still). Mayo pretty much is in the same position Jeff Green is with us. Unless he's been renounced and I haven't heard it.

I have no idea how this could happen.

From a pure S+T perspective it would probably have to be Kristic.

Stiemer is not going to agree to sign there.

We could trade JJJ and a future first plus S+T Wilcox et al... but Memphis probably wouldn't want that.

The irony is we have as much as we need if Rajon developed a consistent jumper, deep jumper and could hit 75% of his ft's next year. This is my dream: keep adding talent but Rajon takes it up another notch or two and its all over for everyone else
Just hit his free throws would go a long way! He's hitting his jumpers better,  just needs to be more consistent.

  • Let them hate, as long as they fear
Like somebody said: Terry is more of a spot up shooter; Mayo has more creactivity; which translates into more alternatives to creatr offense. For spot-up shooters we have the best in PP and Ray....wait! Ray is still torn between the Heat and us, lololololololol(just a little humor added)
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

Huh? Terry isn't just a spot up shooter, he was one of the main ball handlers for the Mavericks for a long time.

Not that I think they'll S&T Stiemsma, but why in the world wouldn't he go to Memphis?  Dangle 2-3 mill a year for 3 years and I bet he'll go anywhere.

We need a an established center,  till KG can get Fab trained  ;D, and I think he is gonna really be good in a year .
But till then , we need a Marcus CAmby, tuff old buzzard to throw in to beat and bang on Bynum , Howard , Hibbert , ect

I's rather have Wilcox than Mayo , IF we can't get a decent fill in Center.   NO NONADS

Okay, I thought they didn't extend the QO and renounced him.
