He was killing it in D league and looked great on the Nets, like he should be starting. His attitude has matured as well, humbled by his road back and focused on improving.

It would be a real steal getting him back in the fold with the resources we have to work with, not sure it's possible but he'd instant energy off the bench.

Gerald Green and Michael Pietrus. I am shocked that Danny would sleep on G Money at his price range.

Forget high priced Mayo!

Forgot about my profile pic with him...I am in no way biased :-)

Gerald Green or bust!

Hasn't he done enough that he'd be offered (much) more than a vet min or whatever we have left?

How much do we have left if Mayo is on our radar? He has to be looking for twice as much as Gerald.

Yeah, if he's okay with the minimum, he'd just go back to the Nets, who could give him a slight raise over that.

He's got to be looking for at least the BAE, and probably more.

Just watched the video.  TP.
This kid has vastly improved.  Forget the highlight reel stuff.  Look at the foot work when he penetrates.  Look at the size/length.  Against Miami, Lebron would have to guard him.  I'm in.

Yeah, and he'll have to guard LeBron. Good luck with that.

Cannot defend, cannot think, and thank God we cannot afford the lowest basketball IQ I've ever seen in a Celtic uniform.

The point is that options out there are becoming scarcer and scarcer by the day. I'm all for bringing Pietrus back but for all his glorification as a great perimeter defender, he made some especially boneheaded moves against Miami in the ECFs. Every time Wade and LeBron would blow by him he would just wrap them up before they even got to the paint and put them at the line, whether there was a help defender in place or not.

I know Gerald Green still hasn't completely proven himself or even come close, but he looks like he's humbled and eager to improve as a poster mentioned before. You're telling me a 6'8" guard with freakish athleticism isn't at least worth taking a look at? If his attitude has improved then I have few reservations that he can become just as good if not a better defender than Pietrus.

We did a look and couldn't ship him out of town fast enough.

That's close to six years ago. Basketball players are people, and people can change. Don't disregard a noteworthy return to the NBA just because he acted like a 20 year old when he was a 20 year old more than half a decade ago.

Personally I'd love to bring Green back. I liked the kid and I think people gave up on him too soon (though understandably since he sucked). He's still young and has some talent in him. I think a team with good veteran presence and structure will do him good.

I don't know that people gave up him too soon... I would have too if it meant Kevin Garnett in return, given the way he was playing at the time.

But yeah, he's only 26 and played well for the Nets last year as a reserve. If nothing else, he's worth taking a flyer on.

Nothing to do with Garnett, I didn't give it a second thought if it meant getting Garnett. I meant as a whole in him making it in the NBA.

He was what? 20-21 years old back then, and we wrote him off for his whole career? Well, I thought it a bit premature for someone of his talents (and a bit of his skills), when it was evident what he needed was a bit more discipline in playing the game, and I think that comes with time.

I don't think he'll ever meet expectations, but I think he could become a serviceable guy in the NBA at the very least, and he's made some good strides I think.

Right, my bad, assumed you were only talking about Boston fans. I can agree with that, then.

His man to man defense is actually pretty solid at this point, particularly in isolation situations. Where he has issues is off the ball he tends to overhelp/get caught ball watching and sags too far off his man, leaving them too open for jumpers. That's something that could pretty easily be fixed with some quality coaching. It didn't help that the Nets were pretty desperate for shot blocking and were probably ok with him sagging off his guy to help on the inside. The biggest difference you'll see is he's just incredibly active on this end now, effort definitely isn't a problem anymore, he always seems to be trying to disrupt things, even if it leads to some iffy fouls at times.

Offensively he's developed a real nice post up game and is very effective going to work from midrange. If he's starting outside the three point arc he still isn't very effective at creating his own shot (anything more than 2 dribbles becomes a turnover waiting to happen), but he tries to force less than he used to. He uses his athleticism to convert inside pretty effectively now as well, though he still has no idea how to draw a foul.

All in all, he's a guy who can put up some points quickly and relatively efficiently as long as he's not asked to handle the ball too much. Defensively I don't think he hurts you anymore, he may not be a huge plus, but on a good defensive team like the Celtics he'd be fine. I think he'd be a really, really good fit here though, so I'd love to see it happen. Chances are though he's looking for mini-midlevel type money, and if he doesn't get that he's likely to go back to the Nets for the minimum (he's incredibly grateful for the opportunity they gave him).
