For what the numbers look like cap wise, just look back at my previous numbers.

Read the thread folks.  Green at 9m is an over-pay but perfectly with-in the apron, especially without Ray.  We're fine.

We still w ould take on 5m in additional salary, and be under the apron.  Or possibly save it for a full mle again next year.  Although that would be difficult.

Actually, this is your first time posting in this thread. You're thinking of a different thread altogether, so maybe take your own advice? lol

Holy God!  This is a different Jeff Green thread.  In fact it looks as if there are about 50 new threads in the  Celtics discussion alone since I was last here this past afternoon.

Wow!  Jeff (Clark) must be makin' bank!

Too bad Jeff Green is too.

Anyways, trust me, Green could make his ridiculous 4/40 with a 9m starting salary and still leave the team in a good spot cap wise.

I think I must have posted the numbers in the other thread detailing his contract.

Boy, that's some egg on my face.

That makes him the 4th most expensive guy in the team? he'd better play like the 4th most important guy..

Link please

And you have to explain why this is "way too much."  What is the going rate for Jeff Green on the market?

There has been a fantasy on this board for some time that Green was going to sign for $6M per or less.  The Celtics could have given him the $5.9M qualifying offer and restricted him, but pulled it back because of the surgery and to do Green a favor and let him become an Free Agent for the first time in his career.  If the C's wanted to lock him up for another year at $6M, they could have easily done it.

A fair assessment might be to say "Bass got 3 years at $7M per, and Green and Bass are similar type values as players."  I would sort of buy that.  But Green is that kind of guy that GMs will overpay because of the perceived "upside" he has as a 6'9" SF who can flex to the PF and has yet to hit his prime.  So that brings you to $8M.

If the number really is $9M, that is overpaying, but not by some ridiculous amount.  I think the years are more important, and whether the last year is guaranteed or not.  I'd rather see a 3-year deal if it is $9M.  Go to 4 years if it is $8M.

Our 4th most important guy is Avery Bradley.  It has nothing to do with salary.

If Jeff Green gives us 13 and 6 in 20+ minutes a game, I will take it and he will earn his money.

Not an unreasonable expectation.

Yeah that's a big commitment to a guy who's never shown he can be special.

Notbo mention his health issues.

I believe he'll produce, or like Ray found out , your be traded.

decent young talent on board... he'll loose his job if he can't come up big.

Alot of money , and alot of pressure to go with it.

Just have wait and see.

Do we have a link for that, I don't see it anywhere on the Globe's website.

You could argue that Boston's biggest downfall over their last few seasons has been their lack of dept - firstly because they have an uncanny tendancy to get hit by injuries, and secondly because they just haven't had ANY consistent scorer on the bench.

If Boston had even one consistent scoring threat off the bench last season I can all but guarantee you they would have been in the NBA Finals, and quite possibly have banner 18.

By adding Jason Terry, Boston finally got themselves that consistent scorer who could potentially put them over the hump.

Jeff Green has never averaged less than about 15 points per 36 minutes as long as he's been in the NBA, and yes that includes his season with Boston (check the numbers).

Best case scanario nobody gets hurt and Jeff Green gives Boston a second consistent double figure scorer off the bench.

Worst case scenario Boston gets hit AGAIN with injuries, and Jeff Green gives them:

2. Insurance for Terry in case he gets hurt (as a 6th man)
3. Insurance for Pierce in case he gets hurt (as a SF)
4. Insurance for Bass in case he gets hurt (as a PF)

That is a lot of insurance for a team who (in the past) has so desperately lacked exactly that...and if adding Green turns out the difference between a 2nd round exit and a championship ring, he will have earned every cent.

Add to the that fact that he's only about 25 years old and could well develop into a 20/8 (Antawn Jamison) type guy and the contract makes perfect sense.

It's more then I would have liked, but given how critical he is to Boston's roster at this point in time, it's entirely justified.

I don't see green ever getting to 8 boards, he'd have to play nearly all 48 minutes.

Personally I am pretty glad we got this deal done for a couple reasons.

First, we had to.... There was nobody else who could give us this level of skill and athleticism that we could have afforded.

Second, it makes me feel a little better about the perk trade knowing that we got a player long term for him.  Came out to almost identical contract values and it now looks like perk wil be amnestied.

Third, I stil think green can be a very useful building block for the future of the franchise.
