Why are people so stuck up on the number (unknown)? Same per year as Judas received last 2 years. Green is 11yrs younger. He is Bigger, Stronger, and Faster than Judas. All it means now Green probably starts now. Pencil him in 14-17ppg 6rpg.

So you think this means Paul will play the 2?

I don't see Jeff starting just yet. But I do feel much more confident with having a bonafide Paul replacement if/when he gets dinged up a bit.

The man can even spell KG a bit.

you don't come off the bench if you make $10M. Pierce at 2 is an advantage on offense for the Celtics. As is 3s have problem defending Pierce. He's going to eat 2s alive. On defense Pierce is dam good. And as far as the quicker, smaller 2s put Rondo on them.

I can't see Pierce playing the 2 for long stretches next year. When's the last time he played shooting guard.

For most of his career Pierce was shooting guard.

The only that matters is the playoffs. Nets (Joe Johnson) Indiana (Paul George) Chicago (Rip Hamilton) New York (?) Miami (Dwyane Wade) Spurs (Danny Green) OKC (Thabo Sefolosha) Lakers (Kobe Bryant)

Pierce can guard all those guys.

Ever since we got him, I've never understood the Pierce at SG and Green at SF thing.  How can anyone say Green isn't the 2 in that lineup?  He's literally twice as fast as Pierce.

Almost every time we've seen it it's been Green guarding the SG.
Philly:

Anderson Varejao    Tiago Splitter    Matt Bonner
David West    Kenyon Martin    Brad Miller
Andre Iguodala    Josh Childress    Marquis Daniels
Dwyane Wade    Leandro Barbosa
Kirk Hinrich    Toney Douglas   + the legendary Kevin McHale

Yeah, I'm certainly not going to get worked up about the amount of the deal. He'll be needed through the next championship window, and when it's done, he will still be young with a tradeable contract.

He's not THAT needed.  It would be nice if he was tradeable right away (especially if we have a shot at somebody like Josh Smith midseason), not a few years down the road.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

we have a 35year old shooting guard in a conferance with the likes of Deng, igoudala, lebron, melo, granger...

in an NBA that increasingly likes to go small

Jeff Green IS needed IMO

Well Pierce is the better shooter.  And with his size at the 2 and Greens speed at the 3 it's a match up problem.

But yeah it doesn't really matter.  Both are at the "wing" position.

If we had a young Pierce than sure. But at his age now I can't see him being able to keep up with a sg on the defensive end.

I'd just keep Bradley at the sg, as he proved last year that when he got a chance he was a real asset there. If we go into the season and Bradley is hurt than I'd move Terry to the sg and bring Green off the bench.

Still, he's a bench guy.  We're set to start Brandon Bass.

If there's an upgrade for our starting line up available on the trade market, I'd like Green to have a positive trade value right away.

You guys want to trade players that most teams have no desire for at all.

Last year they were planning on a lot of Rondo/Ray/PP/Green/KG. I don't know that Green will start, but he'll play a big role. Harden and Manu are bench guys, the fact that they're bench guys doesn't make them trade fodder.

If no team desired Green we'd get him for a contract like Ray's in Miami.

Other than I'm not planning on trading Green. All I said that when the window is done (3 years from now considering the type of contracts being handed out), Green's contract won't hinder us any going forward, it'll be tradeable.

And you have no clue how teams will feel about Green when the time arrives. All I can comment on is that 3 years from now, a one year deal on a 29 year old is not hard to move if needed be, it'll become an expiring contract too rather quick. So don't see all the fuss about it.

Paul Pierce hasn't played the shooting guard position since somewhere around the '02-'03 season.

Those talking about Paul moving back to the 2....THAT intrigues me, to say the least.

I'd shudder at him trying to chase Kobe or Wade around...but is it THAT much out of the realm of possibility?

Both Wade and Kobe are on the downturn of their careers....have Paul lose about 15 pounds...let him come into training camp at around 215-220 (vice his regular 235).

That would make him a bit quicker...perhaps lengthen his career and cut down on his slashing a bit?

How possible is it for someone at HIS stage to make such a transition? I think Paul could really punish most SGs in the NBA.

Back in the day (2000-2004), Paul abused the vast majority of SGs out there.

Is a return to SG in the future?

C - KG/Stiemer/Fab/Wilcox (Krstic??)
PF - Bass/JG/Sullinger
SF - JG/Paul/Peaches/Joseph
SG - Paul/AB/Peaches
PG - Rondo/Jet

Can't wait!

Excited for this, I think Green's going to be in a very good position to succeed the next few years.  RR, AB, and Green on the court together might actually revitalize the Celtics as a quality fast breaking team. Can't wait for that.
