Hopefully we cut down on Pierce's minutes now that we have a legit back up for him(assuming health). That way he's not nearly as tired/worn down/injured in the playoffs.

I can't wait until we find out the numbers on his deal and I hope they make sense.

Some in this group seem to be worried about the amount and length of Green's contract.
I am not sure, but I think many teams are over-extending and over-paying contracts to free agents figuring that most players never lose 100% of their value. In the later years they often can be traded for cap space, another bad contract and a draft pick, or the player voluntarily retires or is forced out of the league by injury.  In the meantime, the team has the benefit of his services. My only concern is that Green is 100% healthy.  If he is, then the Celtics will make out well.

Why are people so stuck up on the number (unknown)? Same per year as Judas received last 2 years. Green is 11yrs younger. He is Bigger, Stronger, and Faster than Judas. All it means now Green probably starts now. Pencil him in 14-17ppg 6rpg.

The money isn't the issue for me atleast, it's the years. I just don't know if I think he should be part of our future. A strong year next season would go a long way to comforting me.

So you think this means Paul will play the 2?

I don't see Jeff starting just yet. But I do feel much more confident with having a bonafide Paul replacement if/when he gets dinged up a bit.

The man can even spell KG a bit.

Will not be surprised if it's in the 9-10mil per year range.

I think he's worth around 7mil, but maybe it'll be a great signing and Jeff will finally play to his potential.

you don't come off the bench if you make $10M. Pierce at 2 is an advantage on offense for the Celtics. As is 3s have problem defending Pierce. He's going to eat 2s alive. On defense Pierce is dam good. And as far as the quicker, smaller 2s put Rondo on them.

I can't see Pierce playing the 2 for long stretches next year. When's the last time he played shooting guard.

Was just going to mention this.  The few times we had Green and Pierce at the 2 and 3 spots together the lineup played played well. IMO we take to take advantage of Green's post up ability and this allows us to do that.

Has it came out that Jeff is to start or is that just speculation?

I'd become all but resigned to Green getting a long-term deal but I just don't get Ainge's fascination with him.  He doesn't rebound or shoot well enough to be a good stretch PF and he's nothing special at SF.  The Celtics are also going to presumably pay him good money to be a backup for the next two seasons.  If he's not a backup, then the Celtics are in big trouble.

More than getting Perkins, Oklahoma City got better immediately once Green was gone.  I doubt they would be the same great team with Green providing inadequate all around production at PF and taking away possessions from Westbrook and Harden.

Give him a full training camp with BOS - and a defined role, which he'll have.

Give him a decent contract and stability - which he is about to sign.

We'll probably be seeing more of THIS:

Man! Rondo just just got another bullet in his chamber. Can't wait.

That had me in tears.  Great to see that.  Welcome back Jeff.  You could still see he was a little tentative.  His OKC tapes he is quite agressive.  He'll be embraced by Boston and the key...HE WANTS TO BE A CELTIC!  Come playoffs we are gonna be force to reckon with.

I think we're going to see Pierce back at the 2 and Green starting at the 3.
