Jeff Green agrees to deal (4 years, $36 million)

Fantastic news.

Regarding the contract, in Danny I trust.  Who really cares how much it is for?  We have a 3 year window with everyone signed and then we have everyone off the books, except maybe Green if his deal is 4 years.  Fine by me.  He's an athletic wing, a tradeable asset if needbe, and if Danny thinks hes worth that much, then I bet he is.

  I pretty much agree with this. We don't know what other teams would have given Green, and the two choices seem to be give the money to Green or not spend it. We don't have the means to give it to someone else.

Isn't it funny how his agent goes on and on about how first class we handled his situation, yet the numbers all point to it being way up there and no mention of a slight discount Green's willing to take to give us some more leverage at getting better. He did just come off major surgery afterall.

I have never, ever seen an agent say his player should take a discount, for any reason. If an agent says so, he should be fired.

Now, a player saying that is another story.

Saying it after a player signs is a different story though, it's just putting a spin on why the other deals didn't work out.

I'd become all but resigned to Green getting a long-term deal but I just don't get Ainge's fascination with him.  He doesn't rebound or shoot well enough to be a good stretch PF and he's nothing special at SF.  The Celtics are also going to presumably pay him good money to be a backup for the next two seasons.  If he's not a backup, then the Celtics are in big trouble.

More than getting Perkins, Oklahoma City got better immediately once Green was gone.  I doubt they would be the same great team with Green providing inadequate all around production at PF and taking away possessions from Westbrook and Harden.

Give him a full training camp with BOS - and a defined role, which he'll have.

Give him a decent contract and stability - which he is about to sign.

Falk has been out with his megaphone preaching about this deal to all who care to listen.  

On paper its good but I can escape thoughts of the guy who was afraid to to assert himself the half season he actually played here.  They've apparently committed a lot of money to a guy who Danny loves but really hasn't shown much in his limited stint here - for what he was getting paid.

Hope deal is frontloaded. That would be smart I think, as we need to get over the cap to offer Terry MLE (filling Allen contract void) and relief cap in the future or have a more tradeable contract.

So the reason I don't think Green is going to take less is because he didn't make anything last year. His contract was voided, and I think in his agent's mind the ability of the Celtics to be able to sign him yet not have to pay him kind of evens the playing field if you will.

Over Green, Pierce, until Green proves he deserves to start. If that happens, then I don't see Pierce having a problem coming off the bench. Over Bass, a legit vet center, either Kristic or Kwame Brown.

Two excellent options. If the latter will take the BAE, that'd be great.
