Yup.  I think the backcourt defense will be better without Ray.  Re-sign Pietrus to give us a teller guard.  We're in good shape w/o RA, thank you!

Rondo + Bradley is clearly better than Rondo + Ray.

We don't need Ray's ass rotting on the bench for 6 million. He'd take away Avery's development time. At this point Avery is already better than Ray and is only getting better.

Ridiculous.  It's Ray vs a vet-min player AND he's going to MIA which is a very good fit for him.

How is that good for us?

Not really. Now we have more flexibility to resign Pietrus and Green.

I will say this, ray going to the heat hurts us more than ray leaving the celtics.

(Good fan tweet) Thx to Ray for 5 fun years. Celts nearly dealt him 2x, demoted him to 6th man, then signed Jet. They weren't loyal either.

I loved Ray even before he came to Boston.  I live in Seattle and got to watch him up close during his prime.  I can't hold this against him.  It's not a popular opinion, but I'm still rooting against the Thunder due to my semi-loyalty to the Seattle SuperSonics ... So I'm glad Ray will be helping the good guys.

For the Celtics, we're probably going to pay Jeff Green a lot of money... so starting Pierce at SG and Jeff Green at SF means we already have two backup guards (Bradley and Terry) getting lots of minutes.  If you're a believer in Bradley then you gotta figure there isn't much of a role left for Ray Allen on this team.  He made the right move.

TP! I'd give you 2 right now if I could. I love Ray but it's time to move on. Loving the potential of Rondo, AB, and Terry. Gonna be lightning quick and versatile.

a few points of contention w/ simmons. lots of players, including stars, are put on the trading block all the time. our captain was nearly dealt this year. and what was his response? thanks to the celtics for everything, and i understand its a business. no bitterness. re: his demotion...does anyone think AB wasn't the better choice? its not like we demoted him without good reason. finally...given how we seem to be building for depth since we're old, i see no issue w/ signing jet. we still offered ray the most money. his 3/27 demand makes it pretty obvious he didn't want to be here anyway, so basically if we didn't go after jet, we'd have nobody right now. the one part that i agree with is ray gave us 5 great years. but the wya he left us makes it a no-brainer to boo him whenever he steps on the garden floor.

That's great, we can pay them more than before.

I'm not too beat up about this either.  I would have liked it better if Ray had gone somewhere else instead of Miami so I could root for him but these things happen.  As far Ray and the Celtics, I was ready for them to move on from Ray.  It had gotten to the point that his stature on the team had exceeded his level of play and I don't know if things would have been different had he returned.  I'm just glad I don't have to watch Ray struggle to free himself around screens anymore.  It was great to see when he first got here as he was still quick and spry and could dust defenders but he had lost that ability.  Nobody seemed willing to stop running Ray's former bread and butter play.  The games I enjoyed most last season unfortunately were those that Ray missed.

The Celts have really needed another shot creator besides Rondo and Pierce these past two years.  When Ray could create shots for himself by running, there was less of a need but with his decline, they've needed someone who could create offense out of nothing.  Terry is a much better fit than Ray right now in their careers.

I have to agree with Simmons on that.

Signing Terry and Green would mean a minutes squeeze and a further reduced role.

If we waited for the Ray Allen situation to finalize before signing Jet, who knows if he would have still been available. We could have lost out on both Ray and Jet.

Appreciate it and TP to you as well for that.

I am now really excited for this team. Loved Ray ever since he got here. I have a large affinity for great catch n shoot guys. Guys like Allen, Reggie, Glen Rice and Dell Curry before him. Drazen too. But it's time to move on now. I'm all set with running 15 seconds of clock waiting for Ray to run his man off double screens just to get him a shot. The play is good every now and then but Ray was a 1-trick pony in that regard unless he was trailing the break. His ballhandling had become a liability and he was stripped often if not forcing passes that weren't there. And his biggest liability was on defense where it just wasn't working anymore. Huge improvement now with AB, and likely Pietrus backing him up. I look to see our perimeter defense much more stabilized and therefore creating turnovers and getting out on the break a lot more.
