I want to apologize to all the posters who think im just defending Ray to the ends of time. Which for the most part I am.

To put my reasoning into persepective, i just want to share how i look at things.

Being a fan of Ray since his college days ive pretty much been a fan of his FIRST. Most are TEAM fans.

When Ray Allen is doing bad, i kinda feel like hes letting the team down, when he is doing well i feel great...OBVIOUSLY. I think fans of players share this as well.

When i come on the board and see threads where RAY ALLEN should be traded, that he sucks, that he costs the team, and constant scapegoat player. Obviously im going to somewhat be hurt that people are saying this and im going to defend RAY.

Over the years, when Ray hit big shots, it was great to see him winning fans over, because in Seattle and Milwaukee, he didnt get too much respect for his game and hard work.

Over the years coming here, fans have soured on Ray, and even wanted him gone, wanted his spot taken over by the up and coming youngster. Wanted Pietrus in his place. Said he couldnt play ANY Defense, and that players like NOVAK were better than him at this stage.

I started to hate the board.

You must realize that even though some of these could be right, I still believe in Ray Allen, that he can start, that he can win games, that he can play good defense when matched up correctly. That he opens it up for others and makes the offense a lot better. I still think he can do this STARTING and having Bradley come off the bench.

I still also think Bradley starting is a great option too.....

BUT hidden in that is that I still want Ray to start.

So you see, many of you are going to blast me for my screename being RAYALLEN1934 and just  sticking up for him for no reason...

But Maybe im just looking at it like he would if he was HERE himself on this board. Seeing things from a perspective of the fans on this board.

Maybe I feel like Ray would be more appreciated from the Best Player in the world, and a top 5 Guard in Dwayne Wade...Pat Riley.....

It sort of does feel good that I see being RE-APPRECIATED again, and not just wanted to fill in a back up role when Bradley comes back

Maybe I see Terry, Green, and Bradley, and I say man, maybe HES NOT IMPORTANT anymore, thoese shots, the ring, the clutch layup, the overtime games. Maybe it means nothing now because we got a young buck to take over and start a new page, but still Garnett and Pierce, the guys he rode with are still looked upon as the GUYS.

Make no mistake, I want Ray to stay, and I will be really dissapointed if he leaves this great Franchise. I will hate it if he does to the point I will not want to watch the games.

But being a DIE HARD Allen fan, maybe you can see it as Ray would.

I think lately , if you have been a huge Ray Allen fan, its starting to feel like your FAVORITE player is becoming a thing of the past, and a thing to replace. Maybe its time to move on.

It's just the natural way of a pro athlete. They age, get worse, their roles decrease, and they get replaced. It's not a personal attack on anyone.

If everyone talked reasonably like you, it wouldn't be a personal attack. Some are a bit more colorful in their comments.

LOL this is my point. Read that again, and tell me how Ray Allen would feel at that point.

He's probably feel very sad and frustrated, and deny he's really slipped at all.

That's why you hear a lot of 'I'm in the best shape of my life' from older athletes. Its a blatant lie, but one they've conned themselves into believing.

Ray Allen had a great run here, made a lot of big shots, but he's declined in talent to the point where if he's not hitting shots, he's a liability.

Avery Bradley brings more, and does more without the ball, especially on defense.

Not a knock on Ray. Just tellin it like it is, is, and not like it wassssssss...

The same way any aging player feels when they lose their starting position to the younger guy...

Rays a great player with a hell of a legacy to leave behind. At at 37, he is better shape than most of us are while in our prime. I think people on this board take it a bit personally, whether right or wrong, that the only team (we know of) that's keeping him from returning, is the Heat. And they just happen to be the 2nd most hated team in this community, if not the most hated.

Will the heat players and staff appreciate ray and what he means to history? Yes.
Will the heat fans? God no. They just see him as some old bench guy who might not even be worth the little money theyr offering because of injuries. Blasphemy.
If you think he doesnt get enough respect from C fans, just wait until you see heat fans.

I don't think he is feeling any different than the average NBA veteran(36-37 yr old) feels.

I've been a Ray Allen fan and a fan of every team he has been on since I saw the movie "He Got Game."

I didn't become a Celtics fan until Ray Allen got here. I was a Supersonics fan before I was a Celtics fan, and I was a Milwaukee Bucks fan before that, with the roster that included Michael Redd, Glenn Robinson, Luke Ridnour, and I believe Rafer Alston.

I'm a Ray Allen fan, so I'll support him wherever he goes, but I really hope he stays with the Celtics. You don't just leave the kind of roster that he's getting ready to leave on the Celtics. He won a championship with these guys. It would mean so much more if he won a second one with KG, Paul and Rondo. Try and help this Celtics team go on another run for a title, and in the process help teach these younger guys who are going to be the future of the team what it means to be apart of and represent this team.

His jersey is probably going to be retired there one day regardless of which team he ends up on as his last destination, but wouldn't it be nice to retire a Boston Celtic?
