Looks like they're banking on Kaman for signing a lot cheaper.

It's a tough call if you're Indiana, Hibbert could pan out to be a top 5 center in the league, or he may not. At least Kaman is consistent and know what you're going to get out of him every night.
Hibbert will never be a top 5 center. He is too limited physically.

Name 5 centers better than him...

Dwight Howard, Marc Gasol, Pau Gasol, Tyson Chandler, Andrew Bynum, Brook Lopez, Chris Kaman, Anderson Varejao, DeMarcus Cousins...

I would even add in some PF's that are more effective at the center spot than hibbert is.. Aldridge, and KG
CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

Yes, I added KG before your response, although I still consider him to be a PF in the hope that we can sign some decent beef in the middle.

Just because somebody center out of need does not make them a center.

I'll give you Dwight Howard, Marc gasol, and Bynum but seriously? Kaman!? Cousins? Varejao?

Yes. Seriously. Hibbert is not worth the big bucks being thrown at him.

Tim Duncan, Dirk Nowitzki, Al Horford, Andrew Bogut when he's healthy...

This really feels like Dalembert's contract all over again.

Except Dalembert made about half of what Hibbert will be making per year.

Oh boy ... the future of that franchise is so hugely dependent on Paul George now. He has to become a perennial All-Star and 25-5-5 type threat for that team to grow into a real title-contender.

Yeah his was what 66 over 6 years?

Just that I meant it was going to lock in a team to where there couldn't really be any additions in the future.

Portland isn't going to give him the offer sheet since they are convinced the Pacers will match apparently.

Hibbert is 25 and has gotten better every year in the league (both in production and conditioning).  He has also been extremely healthy (especially for a big guy).  Is he worth 14.5 million a year, in a vacuum no, but in the context of the league and big guys, then yeah he probably is.  It is much better to pay a guy just coming into his prime that is getting better every year a big contract than to pay a guy at the tail end of his prime who is only going to get worse a big contract.
2025 Historical Draft - Cleveland Cavaliers - 1st pick

Starters - Luka, JB, Lebron, Wemby, Shaq
Rotation - D. Daniels, Mitchell, G. Wallace, Melo, Noah
Deep Bench - Korver, Turner

I agree with this.

I said it in another thead, it's hard to keep calling big guys "overpaid" when almost everyone is paying them on this "overpaid" level.  The market is the market.

Looks like Portland won't be content until they ruffle at least a few more feathers...

representatives for McGee and the Denver Nuggets are in serious contract discussions on a new deal for the center expected to be in the neighborhood of $10 million per season.

With Indiana set to match Portland’s bid for Hibbert, Hochman notes the Blazers may become stronger players for McGee and ultimately offer him a deal to put the pressure on Denver to decide whether to match a higher-than-market-value contract to retain his services.

Are we be talking Hibbert money for Javale McGee? I wonder if Denver is willing to go as far as Indiana did...
