Honestly I think ray leaving would be way worse to me as a fan. Johnny did not break up the band...Pedro and Lowe were already gone as the red sox did not want them back, so I kind of understood the business side a little more.  Also the sox did not lose to the Yankees in heartbreaking fashion in 05 before Johnny left.  Finally Johnny did not leave feeling he did not accomplish something in Boston.  With how close the celtics have been in two of the last three years to number 18 he has to have a sense of unfinished business.

To me ray Allen leaving kg and pierce to our bitter rival who we barely lost to this year is simply unforgivable.  I got over Johnny leaving and even thought he deserve cheers in Fenway.  I will not feel that way about ray.

Damon.  First, the Yankees are a more hated rivalry than the Heat.  Second, Ray never commented about how signing with the Heat would be a slap in the face to the fans, and never stated that he wouldn't do it (unlike Damon).

Last, the Red Sox didn't try to trade Damon multiple years, and then go out and sign a replacement that would eat up a lot of his playing time in free agency.  I still hope Ray comes back, but if he leaves, I can't really fault him.

Let's not forget.  Boston didn't even match the Yankees offer to Damon which was big but not that crazy.   Celtics here are above miamis offer.

Dont get me wrong I was p---ED about Damon.  But this just hurts even more to me.

I agree.  If Ray leaves it will suck and it will hurt.  I have loved watching him the past couple of years, but if the situation were reversed we would all be loving how he is, "Willing to take less money for a better chance at a ring"  Right now Ray is doing everything we hoped other FA's would do during the begining of the new big 3 era.

Ray has made watching basketball very enjoyable for me for the last 5+ years, we tried to trade him and supposedly called him up and told him to pack his bags this year.  He doesnt owe us anything to stay.

This, as much as I hate the Heat ill eventually get over Ray leaving. If you put on the Pinstripes or a Canadians sweater you are dead to me.

EDIT: Actually Roy the Sox did try to trade Damon a few times but stopped after they won the WS

Ray Allen blamed his teammates for his departure and went for less money.

Damon don't think badmouthed a red sox and left for better money

For the record I am holding out hope that ray has a "George bailey" type moment when he shakes Lebrons or rileys hand and comes back.

For those who say Damon to the Yankees is worse, at least the Yankees are a classy organization.  They don't throw championship parades before ever playing a game or prance around like fools.  Or even laughing at kg mid game this year like an ass.    It is just crazy to me that ray Allen of all people would not only tolerate that but want to be a part of it.

Only a million possible sources, if there really was an issue between them everybody that spends time around the team would probably know.

That is so overblown though. I mean is Ray really going to uproot his family and join the HEAT because he doesn't get along with Rondo. I bet every lockerroom has that.

And if that is a key reason Ray wants to leave, someone should tell him everyone has that one coworker that they hate.

the silence by ray on the rumors of rondo being a bad teammate is deafening, i'll leave it at that.

You're delusional if you don't think Johnny Damon backstabbed us worse. Boston/Miami is barely even a rivalry, we just don't like them.

Can't we just bring Gerald Green back?

I am not a Sox fan so I feel more emotional about Ray leaving -- I didn't care about Damon.   That said, if Ray were leaving for LA (Lakers) it would be unforgivable.  The Heat not so much.

I do think it is a stab in the back to leave a city that's embraced him, the place where he won a championship (and could win another with his help), and go to the defending champs who manipulated the system to build a powerhouse (legal, but I don't like them) and who also are offering only 1/2 the money.  I am not happy with Ray, but it's his life.  I just hope he doesn't win anything in Miami (unless they play the Lakers in the Finals).
