Ray Allen blamed his teammates for his departure and went for less money.

Damon don't think badmouthed a red sox and left for better money
I must have missedit, where did Ray blame his teamates for his leaving?

who do you think started to leak the rondo beef stuff? only one possible source.
you realize it could all be fabricated right

It's a comparable situation like I said before but Damon left for the most money and for the most hated rival, if you put it into that context it's no contest. If you're a Sox fan there is no way you can vote for Ray Allen in this poll no matter how much you want to. The 2003 ALCS was the most heart wrenching moment in sports for me, seeing Boone knock the homer in extra innings to put the Yankees in the World Series...

That being said if a player goes to the Yankees Canadians or Lakers they should be persona non grata in Boston. It's spitting on your accomplishments as a player for that city, this is why I have respect for Andy Pettite, Theo kept trying to get him to come to Boston and even offered the most money but he wouldn't betray the Yankees

Ray Allen is worse. At least you can say Damon made a business decision by taking much more money and the Red Sox didn't care if they lost him. Celtics are offering more money and want him back bad.

Sadly, Ray is looking for years rather than money. I have a huge problem him going to the Heat, but I have no problem if he's looking for at least a 3 year deal, and the Celtics don't man-up and he looks for it elsewhere, even if less money is involved.

I think ray mainly because he would be taking less money.

Damon leaving was purely financial which is usually the bottom line in sports.

For ray to take less money and play with one of our rivals where he will essentially play the same role is a slap in the face. Its not like we are the bobcats and offering him more.

Its pretty bad if Ray is saying "I don't care that you are offering more money, id still rather go to the heat"

We should probably save this thread until/if he actually leaves.

Last, the Red Sox didn't try to trade Damon multiple years, and then go out and sign a replacement that would eat up a lot of his playing time in free agency.  I still hope Ray comes back, but if he leaves, I can't really fault him.

Amazing how fans pepper over this.  If Ray leaves it's because he felt slighted by Danny trying to trade him over and over, and skepticism that he'd try to do it again this year.  I can't blame him at all for wanting to leave.  I can't imagine Pierce doesn't feel at least somewhat similarly after Danny tried to trade him for a pile of rags to the joke NJ Nets this year.

I don't know if it has to do with years or money if he leaves.

Are you saying that if the celts offer ray 3 years 9 mil(Miami's max offer ) he would come back to us but not at 2 for 12 mil?

Do you think this has been brought up to the Celtics and they are refusing? Id be shocked if the Celtics wouldn't do 3 for 9.

Damon.  First, the Yankees are a more hated rivalry than the Heat.  Second, Ray never commented about how signing with the Heat would be a slap in the face to the fans, and never stated that he wouldn't do it (unlike Damon).

This, as much as I hate the Heat ill eventually get over Ray leaving. If you put on the Pinstripes or a Canadians sweater you are dead to me.

EDIT: Actually Roy the Sox did try to trade Damon a few times but stopped after they won the WS

ummm don't you mean Canadiens? GO HABS GO! Did anyone else see the guy in the habs jersey walking into the garden i think in the philly series in game 1? pretty cool. Plenty habs fans are celtics fans also but of course loathe the bruins although toronto is our biggest rival.  ;D

it's a business man.......no it is not spitting on your accomplishments for said team you played for. yes the pros have rivalries but not like college football. These guys are getting paid big bucks. Many do not care as much as fans do. It is what it is.

And Damon felt slighted by being offered 4/40 rather than 4/52, and saw the same BS happen to Pedro and Lowe.

Lowe had off field concerns and the sox didnt want to pay Pedro big money.  They had a much more genuine interest in bringing damon back than either Lowe or Pedro

Given this scenario I don't see how anyone could not answer Damon.

But with that said it is like choosing between getting kicked in the nuts or walk in on your wife cheating on you.  Either situation is painful.

Maybe, but 4/52 was not an unreasonsable deal for THE Idiot.  Red Sox fell short on the offer and Damon was a money Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline..  Ray is taking LESS money to play for his rival.  I honestly can't think of any professional athlete who's ever done that.  They only go to their rival if the rival is offering more and they are p---ed the hometown team isnt giving them enough $$$.
