Ray is dead to me....

Unless, of course, he returns. Then I love him.

Similarly, I could understand if Miami had lost to OkC last year and Ray viewed himself as the missing piece to get Miami over the top. However, they already have one. If he goes to Miami, he now looks like he's riding LeBron and Co.'s coattails to a free bonus title.

So again, I don't understand the outrage, but under the circumstances I would be disappointed in him a bit.

In the recent Larry Bird interview he said more than players teaming up, which he has no problem with, he is annoyed and bothered by players taking big pay cuts to ride their coat tails.

I am as well.  If Ray does it then I don't look at him the same way ever again.

We will see though.

TP. Was just about to post something very similar.

Its funny people keep on saying he's going over towards the "Dark Side". If you look at Pat Riley he kinda looks like the Emperor.... :o

If he is having his picture taken with that team of thugs , then thats a pretty good sign Ray is lost to the DARK SIDE ..

shame

I think there has always been a decent chance of him going to the heat.

With regards to Ray going to the "Dark Side."  We tried to trade Ray last year.  All these sour graps about him going to Miami is the equivalent of dumping your Girlfriend and then getting mad when she starts seeing somebody else.

If we hadn't traded Ray last year, Im sure he would have signed an extension with us by now.

But, I never dumped Ray Allen.  I have the right to be hurt.  Danny Ainge is a different story, but I'm not Danny Ainge.  Presumably, neither are any of the other CelticsBloggers who will feel betrayed as fans if Ray Allen joins the Miami Heat.

i think the worst part about this, is heat fans do not give a crap whether they get ray allen.
He's just another spot up shooter to them.

Well....true Danny was trying to move a wounded Ray Allen to another team.   But did he TRY and trade him to our arch rivals ... LA or HEAT .....Nooooooooooooooooooo he didn't .

The differnce is RAY is in negoiations to join the enemy.   The Celtics NEVER offered him to the HEAT/LA that I'm aware of????

So no ... he is thumbing his nose at the Celtics.

Ray is done in Boston.

Pierce, KG, and Rondo dislike the Heat way too much to be okay with this.

This isn't just a business decision going to the Clippers for a starting job and comparable money.

This would be taking less money to side with the ENEMY.

Would Pierce or KG would go out like that with a team that were hated rivals?  I doubt it.
Ray is going to the Lakers?

Miami is not our rival team. Never has been. Just because so many people hate the Heat these days doesn't make them a Celtics rival. Philly, NY and LAL are the Celtics rivals. Miami is just the team that knocked us out of the playoffs two years in a row.

Its hard to become more of rival with teams than facing them three years in the row in the playoffs.

LBJ/Bosh weren't there for 2009-2010, but the C's took out LBJs team right after Wade's.

This Heat team certainly are this Cs team's rivals as much as the Lakers are (2 Finals clashes)

That is a pretty short term view of rivalry for a fan. And this is a fan thing, not a player thing. Ray Allen doesn't strike me as a tribal type who hates other players or teams. He seems more mature to me than the average player.

The Heat are not a rivalry. They are just top dog right now so every other playoff team has them in their sights. There are fans of every team they knocked that will have anger towards them that players aren't going to have. How many all star games have had these guys as teammates?

of course MIA is our rival..

LBJ wouldn't be in Miami, knocking us out these last 2 years, if not for what Ray Allen, KG & Paul did to his Cleveland teams.

Ray's whole Boston run has been pitted against Lebron.

Taking a pay cut to go join him now?
Unacceptable.  might as well retire if you no longer want to compete...

Lesser role, less money, crap fanbase, & tarnished Celtic #20 jersey that should be rafter & Springfield bound,,, all for the upside of going from a top 5 to top 2 team.

of course, if he's just stringing them along to keep them from using their MMLE on other in-demand players...  then Ray Allen joins hero status.

It's silly IMO to just say "oh these our traditional rivals so they are our only ones"...

Philly hasn't been relevant til this year.  The Knicks haven't either and practically still aren't.  If a team is no good they aren't a rival to me.

LeBron's number 1 rival is the Celtics, from his time in Cleveland and Miami.

Bill Simmons said it and it's true that if LeBron goes on to a Jordan like streak and dynasty we will be looked at as the Bad Boy Pistons: an early obstacle and rival in a career.

The level of animosity shown towards Ray Allen for practicing his rights as a free agent is shocking. It isn't as if The Celtics have some absolute, moral authority to be the team Ray Allen plays for. and it isn't like he has been a lifelong Celtic. I guess I just don't understand, or share, the animosity and sense of entitlement towards the situation. The Celtics have tried to trade him in the past and shouldn't give out a contract that hinders them down the road. It is a two way street and that is perfectly fine. The idea that if Ray goes to Miami he is a traitor and scum I find absurd and offensive.

Heck, I don't think it is wise to give Ray a three year deal. I want to see the team get younger, transition to a more athletic/running style. Terry as a reserve is a very different situation, and one I like. I am not disgusted to see Ray check out his options and figure out what he wants to do.

You're right. I don't understand the outrage, particularly when he hasn't signed anything yet.

That said, I would be a bit disappointed in him if he left. I'd understand if he was leaving for more money or a starting role, but neither will be the case in Miami.

Disappointment is fine. I'm sure we would all feel that if Ray left. It is the villainizing and traitor talk that I find baffling. The whole Miami is stealing our player (who is a free agent), they cheat, etc. It just makes no sense to me. Have the C's never signed a player? Gotten a discount cause a guy wanted to play on a winning team? Were people up in arms then?

And the whole projection onto Ray Allen, of he's too classy, or he'd be a lowlife and a bum if he left---it seems to say a lot more about the person saying it than about RA himself. To say nothing of overlooking shades of grey. I find it really distasteful and insulting. (And Ray did hit Varejao in the kibbles and bits that time so he isn't a perfect angel...)

Eh, that is my rant. Obviously wanting to see what happens but the tenor of the discussion I find really off-putting.
