I think if Ray goes, he not only goes for less money, but he probably gives up the chance that his number ever get retired anywhere.  Not saying it was a lock in Boston, but they come back, get another title, and he's the all-time leading 3 pt. King, he'd have a pretty good shot at it.

C'mon back Ray!

That kid is a hostage, you guys, Alonzo Mourning has him in an arm bar and he is wincing from pain.

Ray's cover is blown- they found out his plan to run interference down in Miami because SOMEONE HERE blurted it out on the forum (minus infinity TP). Now they are forcing him to pose for grainy photos and leaking them to us to show that they mean business. Ray doesn't look old, Tgro, that's just the Sodium thiopental.

Just look at that Zoltan beard Pat Riley lets grow back every off season. More importantly, look at his right hand... can't see it? Exactly. That's where he's holding the switchblade that he has pressed to Ray's lower back.

The message here is clear. If the Celtics don't leave Lebron alone, Alonzo Mourning is going to make this poor kid Make a Wish while Ray is forced to watch.

WE HAVE TO GO DOWN THERE.

Ray would do it for you...

From Hoopshype this morning:

There also would be the sense that Allen, Paul Pierce [stats] and Kevin Garnett will stay around to finish the run they began in the summer of 2007. A source close to Allen indicated the Celtics are making a heavy push to get this done, attempting to answer his issues along the way. Allen told the Herald months ago that he didn’t want to have to sweat out another trade deadline after nearly being moved in the past, and word is the Celts are ready to comply with either a no-trade clause or a trade kicker (most likely the latter) that would get him a good-sized raise if he does get moved. It’s interesting to note that, according to the source, Allen would already have a deal with the Celtics if they’d met his asking price, leading one to wonder whether there’s really anything to the Rondo rhetoric. Boston Herald

The level of animosity shown towards Ray Allen for practicing his rights as a free agent is shocking. It isn't as if The Celtics have some absolute, moral authority to be the team Ray Allen plays for. and it isn't like he has been a lifelong Celtic. I guess I just don't understand, or share, the animosity and sense of entitlement towards the situation. The Celtics have tried to trade him in the past and shouldn't give out a contract that hinders them down the road. It is a two way street and that is perfectly fine. The idea that if Ray goes to Miami he is a traitor and scum I find absurd and offensive.

Heck, I don't think it is wise to give Ray a three year deal. I want to see the team get younger, transition to a more athletic/running style. Terry as a reserve is a very different situation, and one I like. I am not disgusted to see Ray check out his options and figure out what he wants to do.

  • Let them hate, as long as they fear
You think Ray is going to have a pic. taken with those guys; know its going to be publish fo others to see, and then tell them that he is not going to sign with them?????? Havent you all siad that ray is the ultimate pro; a player worthy of having his name up in our rafters; and then think he is going to take Heat's managers for a ride and tell them: "Thanks but no thanks"? Allen is GONE, baby. Come to grips with it. All I can say is :Good Ridance. Better now that wait till half a season is over and have to rid hundreds of messages here to the tune of: "We should have gotten rid of him when we had the chance". "Ray has lost it all; no legs; cant buy a basket" etc. etc. etc.  I say: Let him be; we dont need him anymore and obviously, he doesnt need us either.  Life will go on and the sun will rise tomorrow, regardless.
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

Ray is done in Boston.

Pierce, KG, and Rondo dislike the Heat way too much to be okay with this.

This isn't just a business decision going to the Clippers for a starting job and comparable money.

This would be taking less money to side with the ENEMY.

Would Pierce or KG would go out like that with a team that were hated rivals?  I doubt it.

You're right. I don't understand the outrage, particularly when he hasn't signed anything yet.

That said, I would be a bit disappointed in him if he left. I'd understand if he was leaving for more money or a starting role, but neither will be the case in Miami.

Similarly, I could understand if Miami had lost to OkC last year and Ray viewed himself as the missing piece to get Miami over the top. However, they already have one. If he goes to Miami, he now looks like he's riding LeBron and Co.'s coattails to a free bonus title.

So again, I don't understand the outrage, but under the circumstances I would be disappointed in him a bit.

Yeah, everyone is getting an early jump on making him the "enemy".

Which is a bit weird as hopefully he'll be back! Remember in 2010 he visited other teams and didn't rejoin the C's till roughly this same timeframe. And that was after a Finals run where he was almost traded midseason as well....

In the recent Larry Bird interview he said more than players teaming up, which he has no problem with, he is annoyed and bothered by players taking big pay cuts to ride their coat tails.

I am as well.  If Ray does it then I don't look at him the same way ever again.

We will see though.

I think there has always been a decent chance of him going to the heat.

With regards to Ray going to the "Dark Side."  We tried to trade Ray last year.  All these sour graps about him going to Miami is the equivalent of dumping your Girlfriend and then getting mad when she starts seeing somebody else.

If we hadn't traded Ray last year, Im sure he would have signed an extension with us by now.
