I know it's been floated around here, but would Allen's proposed 6 Million a year be enough to attract Mayo? And if not , who else could we sign? Pietrus would probably love to be back for a million or 2...

I don't believe the Celtics would have the 6 million to spend.

We don't have cap space to sign Mayo, and there's no realistic sign-and-trade for him, either.  The only reason we can offer Ray $6 million per season is because we can exceed the cap because we have his "Bird Rights".

Ah, ok thanks. So we could use that on Kristic? Wilcox?

Use the available funds to bring back Wilcox and Pietrus...and you've got till the trade deadline to find yourself a SG.  We can go forward with that.

Clips are interested in Hollins. They are talking about offering him the BAE. Maybe a sign and trade could be worked out with them for Nick Young. Young probably could be paid 4-5 mil. If clips do this deal , they get a player they want, and could potentially use the BAE on somebody else. C's may have to sweeten the deal with a second rounder.

I think Young is a better option for the C's than Mayo. He is taller and more athletic. Young may be a bit of a knucklehead, but he has never had issues with teammates like Mayo. Additionally, he will likely be more affordable. If the C's get young, they can worry about getting another big of necessary at the trade deadline

I believe we have Bird Rights to Krstic, but not to Wilcox or Pietrus.  Hopefully, the latter two could be had for the Bi-annual exception or vet minimums.

Nick Young has a limited vocabulary. Two words he doesn't know:

1. pass
2. assist

After Wilcox's surgery he's definitely a vet min guy.

Pietrus seems so excited to come back he'll most likely take the Vet Min as well.

Not to mention that the vet min for guys like that is around 1.4 million anyways.

I would definatly do the Hollins for Nick Young trade and offer a future second round pick along with it. Much rather Wilcox than Hollins, we saw what he could do when he ran with rondo (whether he has the motor for it anymore.....) I have always been a fan of Nick Young (for some odd reason) but i think he started to mature when he went to the Clippers so coming to Boston could be great for the kids career.

He probably would I wish we could get it done already, last thing we need is for him to go to Miami and have him draped all over Pierce in the playoffs

I don't believe the Celtics would have the 6 million to spend.

We have the 6 million to spend on our own free agents.

The upside - if there is one - of Ray not resigning with us is that the $6M we earmarked for him goes back into the pool from which Danny can spend on the rest of our roster from last year.

If Ray does leave, I think the following will happen:

1) Pietrus will be signed

2) Stiemer offer-sheet will be matched

3) Wilcox will be signed

4) If Kristic is attainable, there will be a strong effort to get him

This is all assuming Jeff Green is basically sealed and delivered, and that Danny is just waiting for resolution on the Ray situation to announce it.  My guess is Danny is doing that so he doesn't lose the 4 players listed above to other offers now.

The cap math I think is pretty clear if Ray resigns.  We can't retain all of those players.  Stiemer is most likely gone.  If we can't get Wilcox on a vet min or the BAE, he is gone (and I'd only do a vet min with him.)  Dooling would probably get a vet min offer.  As would Pietrus, but with Ray back we really don't need either of them.

So...no OJ Mayo, sorry.  Have to settle for Peaches.

With or without Ray, and despite Pie's terrible cold streak I hope we can bring him back for the mininum. Love his ability to guard 3's and big 2's. Plus he's kind of got the Scalabrine where's he's just a great locker room and bench guy.

Ya, I feel like we need to sign him just so he can't haunt us like he did in Orlando.
