with the signing of Bass and assuming Ray is coming back, I think all the F minutes are spoken for:

At PF: Bass, Green, & Sullinger.

At SF: Pierce, Green, & Ray

As are all the guard minutes:

At SG: Ray, AB, Terry

At PG: Rondo, Terry

So that leaves KG at C, plus lets say Steis and Wilcox (or some other vet.)

Maybe Sullinger gets less burn than I think, but that still leaves the team 10 deep.

KG / Bass / Pierce / Ray / Rondo
Steis / Wilcox / Green / AB / Terry

It makes me think a few guys will be unhappy with their minutes, and we'll see more of the bad doc playing too many guys. Alternatively we'll see a lot of small ball since the top 8 is undersized / guard heavy.

KG, Bass, Green, Pierce, Ray, Terry, Rondo, AB

I know right - with the injury luck the Celts have had, its probable that only half these guys make the playoff roster LOL.

No.

Every year people talk themselves into the C's having the best depth in the league. I don't see it.

Given our lack of MVP caliber talent at the top we need quality bench play, we didn't get much of it this past year in the playoffs.

Some of the young guys will see plenty of playing time in D League.

i get what you're saying but guys shouldnt be unhappy with their minutes. If they're playing on a team contending for a title they should be happy.

Has anyone ever complained about having too deep of a bench? Saying its a "dreaded" problem would suggest that a ton of people have complained about it.

But you are right. I would have much rathered sign just Dooling and run a 6 man rotation.

no chance..i expect that until AB comes back boston plays rondo, PP, green, bass and KG as the starters...you would have

PG/SG back ups: Jet, Ray or TBA SG, moore
SF: Pietrus, Joseph
PF Sully, JJ
C Steamer, Melo

When AB returns green adds depth to the SF/PF..Pietrus to the SG/SF

just some unknowns really..no idea what you are going to get from JJJ, Moore and the rookies

Honestly think JJJ, Melo, Joseph and moore spend time in the D league....

Been the biggest issue with DA.  Not enough bench to make up for the difference in minutes that the Big 3 can effectively play. That and the Perk trade.

I could see this team subbing like a hockey team were they bring in 2 or 3 fresh legs every 5 to 7 minutes, which would be awesome to have no drop in scoring or defense the way things are shaping up. Fresh legs against tired by the end of the 4th will be nice to have for once. They could hit teams likes waves with constant scoring, and new defense.

And if some one goes down you have some one that can take their spot for a couple weeks with out really being hurt in the standings.

I think you might see the vets play more in the begining, then the rooks and second years more by mid January, then by mid March Doc shortens the rotation to a playoff rotation and gets them gelling by the playoffs.

As long as every one stays healthy that is....

um, yeah, a too-deep bench is problem right up there with the winning-powerball problem   ::)

Just so everyone is clear the title is a bit tongue in cheek, but I do think not having well understood and defined rolls can back fire on a team. Also depth doesn't make up for top talent, but it can keep that talent rested.

No such thing except in an All-Star Game. Besides, with Boston's recent injury history, I would be AMAZED if the Cs went through the upcoming season with no key players missing significant time.
