Danny Ainge and Doc have made public comments about KG, Ray Allen and Jeff Green. He went out and used the MLE on Jason Terry. These have obviously been the priorities for the reconstruction of this Celtics team after the NBA Draft.
But we don't hear coming from the Celtics are rumors of their interested to bring back Brandon Bass, or if we have those rumors are scarce to find at best. Why is that? Well there is this from a Spurs fan site:
While it seems like the Spurs won't have the salary Bass is seeking, there is the possibility of completing a sign-and-trade for him, as reports state the Celtics will be looking to sign-and-trade with any team that signs Brass if he chooses not to return to Boston.
http://projectspurs.com/2012-articles/july/spurs-interested-in-brandon-bass.htmlNot sure how reliable that is but brings up an interesting position. Are the Celtics more interested in signing and trading Bass away for and getting a possible starting PF or center that can rebound better? With the Jet on board, if Ray returns and with KG's and Pierce abilities to hit shots from mi range, is Bass's mid range game and mediocre rebounding just not needed? Could it be the C's are looking for a defensive upgrade from Bass that can rebound better and might have a better post game?
Seems something like that could be logical given its what Sullinger does and perhaps if its a vet, Sullinger could learn something from such a player. Perhaps the C's want to keep KG in his mid range game to remove some of the long term wear and tear off him and Bass' offensive is a bit too repetitive with the rest of the team's in that regard?
Perhaps Danny could loosen some teams grip on a better player with Bass, JJJ and a pick or two. Perhaps someone like Scola from Houston, Lee from Golden State, Splitter from San Antonio, or Thompson from Sacramento?
Maybe not but I really think its far from a given Bass returns and more likely he gets signed and traded.
