Yes, I'd let him walk.

I don't trust him to be the same player he was prior to heart surgery.

First, it wasn't heart surgery.  He had an aortic aneurysm, which is close to the heart but not actually the heart.

Second, his doctors have said he is 100% back to full health.  The only concern we should have would be conditioning, which could be fixed, and mental, which his agent said will absolutely not be an issue.

Third...you don't just let guys like Jeff Green walk unless you are positive that the $$ is overpaying.

....   that still doesn't tell you how Green's going to react to playing again.  Is he going to go as hard as he possibly can?  Is he going to be thinking about his racing heart instead of thinking about the guy he's defending?  If he's scared (reasonably or not) that he might drop dead on the court, that MIGHT have an impact on his play.

"His agent said will absolutely not be an issue"

Nobody's going to know that - not even Jeff Green will know that - until he steps back on the court.

Well, all Jeff Green needs is one team to be interested in him and not consider it as a factore for him to leave.  It only takes on team confident in him to hand out a paycheck.

No one is saying not to offer Green a contract.

But offer a contract based on his situation.  Unknown reaction to a huge issue for a 5th starter (at best)

Aortic aneurysm is where the aorta swells...LOL The aorta is a component of the heart...?

No, the aorta is the major artery that leads from the heart to the rest of your body.

I can only go off what the experts (MDs) and the people closest to him (his agent, Danny) have said.

The doctors said he is 100% healthy.  Better than ever in fact.  Danny as stated this.  His agent has stated this.

His agent has gone as far as to say that this issue (a life-and-death issue) has put his career into a different perspective.  Falk believes we are going to see a more committed and more passionate Jeff Green than ever before.  Granted this could all just be agent-speak, but Falk seems like a trustworthy dude.

I have no reason to believe, other than pure cynicism, that we will not see the Jeff Green we saw in OKC and with us in 2011.   We will probably get a discount because of the surgery, but not a 50% pay cut like some would expect.

I think he will be one of our best players next year.  Jeff Green is a really talented player.

Well Jeff Green in OKC and especially BOS was a bit of a disappointment to many. Additionally agents aren't always reliable when talking about how great their player is going to do.

Beasley is a lot more talented than Jeff Green.

....and healthier. After such a big operation and one year off to recover, I find it very risky to be handing Green anything higher than $6m a year. I think 3 years $6m (12 guaranteed) and the third year a team option would be fair. Green and his agent must realise that he is alive because of the Boston medical staff.

Here is the problem that everyone seems to be missing: there is more than one team in the NBA.

If only one team, be it Charlotte or Sacramento or Indiana or whoever, decides he is healthy and will pay him as such, we have to decide whether we will do the same.

The NBA as a whole and Jeff Green himself will do more to set his value than the Celtics will. 29 other teams. Big league.

Beasley isn't necessarily more talented than Green, I'd say that he's just more aggressive. Sometimes people confuse hogging the ball and making bad shots with being more skilled than the guy who plays his role in the offense and is maybe not aggressive enough.

I think if Green played with some fire, and doesn't play alongside Glen "Fat T-Mac" Davis he can get more shots from where he should be getting them.

I'm going to go ahead and say that taking a risk that Jeff Green will recover fully from a physical standpoint is a better gamble than taking the risk that a knucklehead will stop being a knucklehead.
