Beasley's Suns Contract Sets the Market Value for Green

Beasley has reportedly accepted a 3 year, 18 million offer from the Phoenix Suns. As a player that is similar to Green in being a SF/undersized PF and game, I feel like Ainge would be insane to give Green anything over 7 million. I mean Ainge must try to retain him given that we own his bird rights and because he partly represents the future of the team, but anything like the 9 million that his agent is asking is too much. Do you guys agree?

I didn't know Jeff Green was looking for $9 million a year.  That just sounds like agent speak to me.  I would think that both parties would be very satisfied with a deal similar to Michael Beasley's.

Exactly, and he's younger too. I feel that 5-6 mil a year for Green is a fair deal for both sides, especially given Green's year off.

The Beasley deal may have been a steal, but this is theft by Green's agent.

I doubt the market had to be set for Jeff Green, I bet he and the Celtics already have a deal in place. I'm okay with Green getting 8 million a year from us, but I doubt he would get 8 million a year from anyone else.

Last year I think Danny was overpaying for the year instead of committing to a multi-year deal.

I can't see Green getting or expecting to get that annually.

Whoa, Green definitely has to be in 5M-6M range...I mean after what Beasley got, it's insane that he'd get 8M-9M.

Beasley is a lot more talented than Jeff Green.

He can have MJ's talent, he's still a tweener with no motor. Talent gets you spit.

One league source said agent David Falk’s starting point for next season is $9 million — the figure Green agreed to for the first year of a four-year deal with the Celtics last December, before the contract was voided by his physical. But Falk has been getting a lot of face time with Celtics management.

Well that is just obscene, "starting point for next season is $9 million".  Looks like Hawes and Beasley should make Falk their new agent.

I feel like SF's of Green's caliber are a dime a dozen.  Beasley, Jeff Green, Marvin Williams, Ariza, Richard Jefferson, Stephen Jackson, Batum, Gerald Wallace, Marion, Prince, Maggette.  All players who are considered "good" players, but none will ever be all stars at their position and all make too much money considering how many equal-better players there are at the SF position.  There are at least 6 NBA players (Lebron, Melo, Granger, Iguodala, Pierce, Gay) inarguably better than those on that list.  And I didn't even mention Deng and Gallinari or fringe SF's like Joe Johnson and Josh Smith.

You can't pay 8-9 mil per year for a guy who is so relatively weak at his position.  Considering those players named and also the potential rise of Kawhi Leonard and Paul George, does anybody think that Jeff Green will ever be a top 8 SF in the league?  I'm curious if he'll ever even be top 10.

I say 3 years 20 mil (or 4 yr 25 mil) MAXIMUM or let him walk.
