Heard some encouraging reports on Fab Melo from Syracuse's assistant coach, who talks about how scarily quick he developed in Syracuse. I'm starting to like this pick more and more. That had me thinking, would you guys be comfortable with Fab starting over the likes of Chris Wilcox or Stiemsma given that they both return? Hopefully the offseason gets him up to speed with Celtics basketball. It just seems so bleak to get a serviceable center.

How would anyone here be comfortable with him starting without seeing him play a single second at the professional stage?

If Wilcox is back, he should get the start nod. And if Green returns, I might just go with him.

Start him against awful teams, maybe he ends up surprising us all. If Doc doesn't give our old guys rest they will be limping and fatigued when it matters most.

ha.   this dude is going to be awful for awhile, if not awful forever.   not even close to nba ready.  didn't he average less than 6 boards in college?   the homerism is depressing here.

Ditto..we haven't even seen the guy play summer league yet ad he hasn't even attended an organized practice lol

man he barely played what 1-2 years in college and only been playing BB like 6 total.

Give him at leat 2 years to finish growing and learn the game, he is  green as they come  .

No way does he belong on the court....and I;'m as big as fan as he's got.

Maybe Sully at somepoint this season can give good minutes.
Both are still kids .. but the Perdue boys are older and were in College 4 years I believe , they need to start producing this season.

I'd be ok with it. I'd like to see KG's min get cut to 25ish during the regular season. I could care less about seeding. So throw out Melo and see what ya got. Plus if you can get Melo's feet wet in the regular season he'd be more trustworthy in the playoffs.

I said maybe, but there may be a better chance of Sullinger starting.
Mock Deadline Denver Nuggets
Nurcic/Henson
Patterson/Bennett/Arthur
Ross/Budinger
Miller/Hunter/Foye
Rubio/Ennis/Bayless

No.  Melo is still learning the game; he's probably not ready to play at the highest level yet, let alone start.

I think there'll be a lot of other options on the table before it comes to that, including starting Jeff Green at the 4, followed by Sullinger, and Wilcox if retained.  And that isn't even counting Bass, Krstic, or other potential free agent targets.

Maybe not right away, but in some games I'd certainly like to see him get extended minutes.

And as the season wears on, why not starting?

In the games where Doc just tells KG to take a game or two off, I'd certainly hope that both Fab and Jared get some PT.

I hope melo starts - if he does that means we got a huge steal w 22.  But I assume melo is probably going to be 2nd or third string.  Doubt he is sent to the red claws as they will want him to be around kg and learn from him.

Doing something like this could be the easiest way to ruin a player that there is. If he's not ready and you start him and he gets torched or can't do what is required, you could destroy his confidence to play forever.

I'm not sure I can stress enough just how much I do not like this idea. Melo is a huge project and needs better handling than this from the Celtics if he is ever to be what this team needs to be.
