6.5m a season for a young big man? Fire your agent Hawes, this was your chance to make at the very least 32 million over four years.
Except now, if he can build on the way he started last season, he can make MUCH more than that. I am a little surprised he signed a 2 year deal and not 1 year (I wonder if there was an option), but clearly this is a case of a guy who found himself on the bottom of the ladder of a deep group of young, FA centers, coming off a very disappointing end to the season where he fought with injuries and underperformed.
So, he knows that, if he continues to improve at the rate he has been, and continues to add to his frame, that in a couple years, he won't be looking at 4 year/$32 million deals, he will be looking at max type offers.
It's a calculated risk, but given his age and skill level, I think its a smart one. He is making enough in this contract to be set for life. Now he is working towards the contract that will make his entire extended family and great grandchildren set for life.
