With our MLE potentially gone, it'll be pretty easy for a team to pay a little over the QO to get him.

Yep. A straight $2 million per year offer takes it.

Yeah he would be a good fit in Minny.  Essentially providing what Darko was supposed to give them sans the pouting.

Are people sure we can't sign and trade him?

Maybe we bring back Nenad.

Yes we don't have bird rights to him.

We'd have to use the MLE to match anything above the QO.

Don't we have Bird Rights on Stiemsma.  I don't see why we wouldn't match other offers within reason, say up to $2 to $3 million per year.

You acquire bird rights when you have a player for three years, (if you trade for them you get their bird rights).

We've had Greg 1 year.

You get early Bird rights if you've had a player for two years, but that still doesn't help us with Steamer.  If he accepts an offer that's greater than the Bi-Annual exception, we cannot match.

I should have checked the post coming in as I was typing.  Thanks for answering my question before I even asked it.

I have another question then, and I apologize in advance for being a complete cap moron, but is it then the case that if we have offered the full MLE to bring in Jet and somebody else offers Greg above the QO, we really have no way to re-sign him?

If the offer would fit into the BAE which is 1.8ish million we could use that.

But anything higher than that, even on a single year deal we couldn't match.

I hope he gets the contract.  The kid came out of nowhere and proved he could do some useful things at the NBA level.  It would be pretty impressive if he works a multiyear deal for himself.  Happy for him.
would rather it were here
