If Ray resigns and the Cs are under 62-65 million, they can use the MLE on Terry.

I am down with Terry either way. I am a big fan.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Don't think it will be enough. It's 5 million right?

They're looking at Jet because we need a punch off the bench.
Ray will most likely start the season if Avery is out till All Star break. Bringing Green in with Jet would give us an extra 25 points per game off the bench which we've seriously been lacking for 3 years now.

I would throw whatever it takes to get Terry here. Obviously there's a limit but he could rest Ray and Rondo and our line ups would be so tough to match up with for opposing benches.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

if Avery is out till All Star break.
The timetable of his recovery is supposed to be four months. He had the surgery in late May, he should be ready to start the season.

Sorry to say this, but Ray is screwing us right now.  If Ray would just agree to the $12/2 year deal that he's been offered, then we would have the MLE to spend on front line help.  Plus, there isn't even a guarantee that JET will accept the MLE.

Ray's got us in scramble mode.
Everything I've heard/seen is that our MLE offer to terry isn't contingent on Ray not coming back.

My guess is that the C's don't like any of the front court options out their for the MLE.

I know he's old and had injury issues for much of his career...  but wouldn't Camby be a perfect fit for 20-25 minutes a night?  And, I don't see him as a vet-minimum guy.  I mean, his rebounding rate is almost off the charts; DRR of 31.5, versus KG's 25.8 (itself not too shabby!)  Nine boards/game in less than 23 minutes.  And, he played basically a full season last year.

Wouldn't he be worth using at least a good chunk of the MLE on?   Even if we lose Ray Allen, I'd rather go into next season with AB and Pietrus as my shooting guards, if I had Camby up front.

If we sign-and-trade Ray, are we still eligible to use the MLE on JET?

I'm not suggesting we do, but if Ray doesn't want to return it allows us to get a replacement for him, a role player via the trade, and maybe even a pick. Pretty sweet if he's leaving anyways.

You aren't getting a solid center for $5mill these days...I think dannys gonna turn it over to the youth.

Terry would be a great fit for us...he's a guy who can create his own shot

I'm all for Terry.  Thanks for everything, Ray.  I hope the sunshine treats you well in LA or Miami.

AGHHH I hate the suspense. I thought he only wanted money. Aghhh. Don't join the dark side Luke Ray!

Yes, we may use the full MLE as long as we aren't paying the luxury tax which is what 70 million?

We can go up to 74 million including the full MLE, but no higher. So we can sign 69 million dollars worth of salary with our bird rights and other exceptions and then use the full MLE.

See my edited post above, 74 million is the hard cap for teams using the full MLE.

When did he get surgery on his right shoulder? I saw he got it on his left may 30th.

In anycase I don't think you can rely on a guy that young coming off of that type of surgery with no camp and who really has only played probably 3 good months for us.

I think he'll have to earn his spot back unless he recovers early and shows no signs of weakness. I just don't see that happening

So if Ray is unhappy playing with Rondo, why not...

1. Sign Ray to a 2yr, $12mil deal
2. Use the MLE on JET
3. Sign BB with remaining cap space (yes, I know, this is the "iffy" step)
4. Trade Ray, BB, and either a pick or JJJ for J-Smoove or the like

I'm sure DA's kicked the tires on Camby, but most everything I've seen says he wants to come back to Houston, aside from one article somewhere that he immediately decried as false.  He seems less into ring-chasing, and more playing basketball in Houston because he likes playing basketball and he likes living in Houston.  And once Houston realizes they're not getting Howard, they'll probably bring him back.

JET would help a lot for a number of reasons:

1. scoring off the bench (can create his own shot or 3 point shooting)
2. playing some backup pg and sg (which could let ray play a lil sf)
3. lets ray and paul get much needed rest during the season (jeff green will also help paul in that dept)
4. let avery bradley work his way slowly back into the rotation
5. INJURY INSURANCE
6. a ton of swag

That's been proposed many times but I don't think Smith or another high level player is available for that sort of package.
