"Steep" because we were hoping to save every penny to sign other Free Agents, I suppose. Also the length of the deal is a bit eye-opening considering he was contemplating retiring.

If he had a $21 million deal last year and he signed for $11/yr that isn't a direct $10 million savings. I'm interested to see if this freed up some, if any at all, cap space.

What do the CBA buffs say?!

The deal if it can be still, is probably front loaded

He's worth it in year 3 strictly for the mentoring he will give to the young guys and for the culture he provides to the team. Any solid play that year is a bonus.

This is fantastic news for not just C's fans but for all basketball fans.  KG is an all time great, a tremendous competitor and he will keep the Cs relevant for as long as he plays.  

I'm just shocked he wanted a three year deal.  i guess he can still retire anytime after this year.  I wouldn't be surprised if there was a player / team option in there at some point.

That's fair. I suppose this lets him ride out into the sunset on his own terms at least. I wouldn't be shocked if they both hang them up after this last, truly final, run.

I'm waiting for the details, but 34 million is really too much for KG's age and our chances to rebuild.

His contract also surpasses Pierce and he expires with Rondo.

Hopefully there's some type of structure that doesn't fully guarantee the final year or final 2 years.

We're talking money here, valuable FA's next year.

I have a feeling expiring contracts are worth more now in the new CBA than before. Ainge knows what he's doing, most of the big name FA's never actually end up hitting the market, they get traded.

YESSSSSSSS!!! Kevin Garnett is returning to the Boston Celtics!! 36 years but not done yet! And why should he, as he played like an absolute hero and warrior in the last playoffs! So glad my favourite player will be back in Boston for another run at the title!!

structure will be alright, we can't rebuild anyway this year...

Man this is the best thing that could happen to us, like the deal :) like the idea him and Paul retiring as a celtic

The deal is fine. This basically ensures that Pierce will not be traded or amnestied. If it's a 2 year deal, with a player option for a 3rd, it will expire with Pierce's, if he doesn't opt in. If it's a 3 year deal, and he does play all 3, it will be expire with Rondo's.

This also means that we will not be looking at the FA market the next 2 or 3 years. Ainge said that is just a recipe that doesn't work. It's only worked for one team (Miami), as most players sign extensions and don't ever make it to free agency. This means that the likelihood of Allen returning for a 2 or 3 year deal just shot through the roof. Just like I now expect Green to sign a multi-year deal as well.

If Allen does return, I expect us to target a true center with our MLE (Kaman) in order to preserve KG. So a 3 year deal for the just turned 30 year old 7 footer, at yearly increases each year seems likely.
